I have heard the Honu Half is a tough race. How does it rank with some of the other tough halfs out there?

Can't compare it to too many others but the bike isn't too bad. You have the Hawi Hill but if you're used to Hills it's not a killer. If it's windy well then it's damn tough... Basically a ton of rolling hills througout the whole bike. Minimal flat sections. Nothing technical though as long as you can handle possible crosswinds. Also no granny gear climbs, or maybe just one depending on your fitness but it's short, like 100m long.

Run is HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOTHOHTHTOHTOHTOTHOTHOTHOTHOTHOTHOHTOTHOTHOTHOTHOTH umm, yeah, hot:) Fun and gorgeous run but it's not a run you'll get into a rhythm on at all. Lots of little out and backs, asphalt, to gravel, to a bit of sand, to fairway, to golf cart path, to fairway, to road, headwind, tailwind, headwind... you get the idea. It's very well supported though, just be ready for heat.

Awesome swim!

It's a great race but make sure to register soon as I'm sure it's almost full.

Hopefully see you there!

Tai's right about the course. The run is challenging because it's over a lot of golf course - grass and short, rolling hills, plus the toasty conditions of the Big Island.

The race is almost full and will close on May 1st so you have to make up your mind soon.

As Tai said it is hot on the run. It isn't an easy bike course. This part of the the IM Hawaii course has more short, steep rollers then any other part of the course. The last seven miles into Hawi are notorious for the headwind and it is a steady climb. The good news is when you turn around you are usually going 30+ MPH for a while. Probably one of the worst parts of the course is the run from the beach up to where the bikes are and then the hill to get out of Hapuna back to the Queen K. We did the ride a couple of days ago and the wind was blowing so hard we barely made it up the hill.

If the wind is blowing which it almost alwyas is on this part of the Island all bets are off on the bike.
