Not uncommon. I often have it happen with the right brifter (also 8-speed 600). It's probably the old grease stiffening up from the cold. I clean mine out with a spray solvent - I use Finish Line EcoTech-2.

Do you just depress the lever part way and spray or is there a specific spot you're trying to hit? How long does that fix typically work for?
