Handlebar Tape - What's Good?
Time for new tape. What's good out there? My LBS has a very limited selection that I'm not too impressed with so this will most likely be an online purchase without being able to "try before I buy".

Performance Bike has their own branded version called GripTech. Copy of Fizik Performance Tacky or LizardSkins bar tape, but for much less. Tacky with just enough gel padding.

I love the Arundel Gecko tape. It's on all of my bikes.

I like the thinner Lizard skin on my road bikes.
For my tri bike I use Hockey tape, which is not ridiculously overpriced and good in all weather.

I've heard good things about this, similar to Lizard Skinz?

I've had both and Arundel wins hands down. Long lasting, easy to install, and all around awesome. Plus it's a small company putting out amazing products.

I used Cinelli for years and generally liked it and on a lark tried the Fizik bar tape and it is my go-to tape anymore. It isn't the most comfortable, but it stays put and cleans up easily. I've gone as long as two years without needing to replace tape whereas with most softer cork style tapes it is a pretty regular issue.

What are your needs?

I'm not super hard on tape, and actually found the Performance Forte brand to be the easiest tape to install and maintain, and at $9.99, it's way awesomer than the Fizik tapes at $30 a roll.

As mentioned above, the Performance tacky tape is nice too.

I used to ride Cinelli tape but honestly the rolls are cut for 36 cm track bars... -.-

My favorite has been the gel grip tape from Bontrager. Its a little more expensive than the standard gel tape, but when you get out of the water, its really nice to have something to hold on to.

Zipp service course. Lizard skins is good too, only thing with that is dirt gets into those tiny holes pretty easy. Arundel gecko sucked for me (the back adhesive peeled off with the "wrapper", leaving no adhesive). But maybe nobody else had this problem.

Anyway, zipp service course is awesome.

x2 on the PRO tape. it's more stretchy than the Arundel, making it easier to wrap smoothly around shifters, etc. And the sticky backing peels off nicer, so it's easier to unwrap bar tops/replace housing/rewrap, or just replace.

For my 2c, I am unsure that Lizard Skins has any more grip when wet than the cheap Deda tape, but they do feel a bit nicer when dry.

I wanted some purple tape for a theme and found some lizard skins bat grip tape that's stays fairly tacky when damp, good adhesive and comes in several minimal thicknesses. It seems to have a little bit better dampening properties and feel better barehanded than most of the bicycle tapes I've used before.

I find electrical tape works the best, and if you don't have any of that, try scotch tape. ; )
