Big mistake of the Org. Motocyles at any major race join or peel off the course. They never start WITH the riders.

Hope they learn from this. Giving the nature of the event, I wouldn't bet on it.

Red Hook riders mostly ride metal frames and alloy wheels.

Makes So Cal crit racing look civil. Hope the injuries weren't too severe.

It's a good thing disk brakes aren't allowed. Imagine the carnage!

Yup, it's always been at night. The race organizer started it in 2008 as a scrappy cycling birthday party of sorts.

I was there last night and saw the wreck and it was absolute carnage. Broken chains and forks and bones jutting out at odd angles everywhere. Don't think I'll go back to watch it again, it was honestly pretty sickening. Why is racing with no brakes down a dark narrow chute with tight corners at night somone's idea of fun?

What a pity this happened. Anyone in critical condition or worse?

WOW. watched a few of the other crit videos - crazy awesome. Seems like that type of intensity, ideally without the wrecks, would make for good tv. Would expect to see more of it on weekends.

A poster earlier stated it was a fixed gear crit. That sounds like an absolutely insane idea IMO.
