For me, I like the ability to view it after the ride. I don't care about NP or TSS while riding, but it'd be nice to look through the ride file & get the data w/o having to upload the data to TP or whatever.

Good point. I would agree with that.

Not really that concerned about TSS/IF/NP but i do want a firmware update that includes the added bike profiles from 3 to 5 as in the Edge 800.

This would be great. I'm hoping it comes soon.

Help me out here, what is the value of the bike profiles?

For all the folks that have more than 3 bikes it's a nice touch. You can keep track of how much you ride each bike and you can input specific wheel diameter for speed for each of your bikes.

YMMV,

I see, I ride on four different bikes but still don't see the benefit since I use a powertap wheel on my road and TT bike, use GPS for speed & distance on my mountain bike and have a speed / cadence sensor on my trainer bike. Even if I just use bike 1 for every ride the device seems to always automatically switch to whatever it needs to to collect and display information.

I would like there to be different data field settings possible though. When I ride the TT bike I want to see different fields than on the MTB... or something for racing with less fields (but bigger size) vs training. But I assume that's not possible? (I have a 500 and a 310XT)

Thanks for posting it.

Anyone know if GarminConnect has been enhanced to work with these new metrics? To me that's where the real payoff would be. Having TSS available in real-time on the bike isn't particularly useful. But having it (and the other new metrics) in the ride summary on GC would make the software much more useful.

I am curious about these updates as well:

"- Made improvements to the power meter calibration process.
- Fixed an issue where Auto Zero was incorrectly displayed as an option when paired to the PowerTap hub. "

Thanks for posting. I just downloaded and installed it, ready to give it a try tonight. Having 5 pages of data is cool. I left my 3 screens as before and pout NP, NP lap, TSS and IF on a new page, just to see if/how they work.

Yes, it's been there since last fall for Edge 800 users (and now Edge 500 activity recorded folks).

The FR310XT won't be getting the update (per earlier announcement), and it doesn't like they are planning on changing their mind. :(

Smile Seriously? Keep in mind Garmin took ~10-months to publish this update for the Edge 500.

I just updated to 3.0 on my garmin 500. I tried to upload to garmin connect and I've been getting an error "Error: ERROR: Unable to parse directory document." I'm on a mac using safari with Lion. I've had no previous issues uploading. Tried firefox and nothing seems to happen.

Just curious if you have any thoughts.

Hmm, not sure on that one. Have you tried both via Garmin Communicator as well as just manually picking the file via the 'manual file uploader' thing.

Called Garmin Tech support. They said there probably is a corrupt file on the 500. they advised to reset the unit, delete the history, as well as go into my activities file on the computer and erase all the files on the computer.

we'll see what happens!
