call me weird (everyone else does) but I kind of prefer dual pivot brakes to cantis...so I'd like to get a carbon fork (of course it has to be 1inch threadless..just my luck) that will allow clearance for at least a 30mm tire and still keep my dual pivot brakes. Anyone know of such an animal?

unless you use "normal reach" dual pivots, you will have problems with tire clearance. won't matter on what fork you use. are those the brakes that you use?

i have an old set of 105 duals on there now...tires fit in not too bad. no rubbing. just couldn't get enough clearance (and we're talking a few mm here) in the current fork. I don't want so much to have a cross bike per se just converting an old roadie to commuter/sometimes mild offroad use.

i have recently fallen for a road bike with avid mechanical disc brakes. wow. unreal stopping power, wet or dry. zero tire clearance issues.
