It will still be a nice bike when the seat clamp breaks, you just won't be able to ride it.. and it will break eventually. Suggestion. Get a few as backup so that $2500+ piece of equipment doesn't become useless at inopportune moments.
Nice pics though.
I'm not certain which seat clamp this refers to. The seatpost head clamp is a commonly used design, with a thumbwheel and a 6mm x 1mm bolt anchoring the adjustment and clamp. The design can be flipped from the front or rear portion of the seatpost. I suppose it is possible to tighten the clamp so much that the cradle the seat rails rest on distort or bend, and possible fail, but I have never seen this happen. The proper lubrication and torque will ensure the seatpost provides years of trouble free service.
If the post is in reference to the fhe forged alloy seatpost clamp on the frame, it develops dramatic clamping force with the twin bolt design. The clamp can hold the post with as little as 2-3 Nm of torque on these bolts, we recommend 5Nm. If the clamp is tightened to a force around 20Nm, the sharp trailing edge of the seatpost can be driven into the back of the clamp, causing the rear portion to withstand the entire clamping load, not distribute it over the surfaces of the entire section.
As with many things, the proper lubrication and correct assembly will provide years of trouble free service.
If the clamp is broken, it can be replaced as the threaded portion of the clamp is removable, not integrated into the frame.
