ScottinNJ,

run the deraileur housing to the inside of the aerobar clamps where they attach to the base bar. Run the cables OVER the base bar, it makes for a very smooth transition to the housing inlets on the top of the top tube. It also hides more of the exposed housing.

Great shots, nice bold, dark, bike with a very similar backdrop.

I didn't realize that the cabling would be such a hot topic and I appreciate the suggestions for "fixing" it. I'm sure it's not that difficult to do, and I'm fairly adept with a wrench, but I've never tackled running cables on a bike before so I'll probably just leave them for now. When I need to run new cables I can do the switchover.

Cables are the lipstick on your prom queen.

Correcting the routing (not the length) doesn't require any cable adjustment:
  1. remove 1 of the clip on aerobars
  2. be sure to leave the other side intact, as is!
  3. take the clip on bar, run the cable over the top of the base bar, and bolt it back in place in the exact same mirror position as the bar on the side you left as is.
  4. once you have the bar reattached and clamped in place with the correct torque, repeat on the side your originally left as is.
  5. Doing them one at a time preserves the position you have already established.
  6. repost photos

Enjoy!

Geez, now I feel dumb. Never really gave it much thought, but that's so simple how can I not do it?

It will still be a nice bike when the seat clamp breaks, you just won't be able to ride it.. and it will break eventually. Suggestion. Get a few as backup so that $2500+ piece of equipment doesn't become useless at inopportune moments.

Nice pics though.

Every morning a lion wakes up knowing it must outwit and outrun (at least) the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death...
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle, when the sun comes up, you'd better start running.

I'm not certain which seat clamp this refers to. The seatpost head clamp is a commonly used design, with a thumbwheel and a 6mm x 1mm bolt anchoring the adjustment and clamp. The design can be flipped from the front or rear portion of the seatpost. I suppose it is possible to tighten the clamp so much that the cradle the seat rails rest on distort or bend, and possible fail, but I have never seen this happen. The proper lubrication and torque will ensure the seatpost provides years of trouble free service.

If the post is in reference to the fhe forged alloy seatpost clamp on the frame, it develops dramatic clamping force with the twin bolt design. The clamp can hold the post with as little as 2-3 Nm of torque on these bolts, we recommend 5Nm. If the clamp is tightened to a force around 20Nm, the sharp trailing edge of the seatpost can be driven into the back of the clamp, causing the rear portion to withstand the entire clamping load, not distribute it over the surfaces of the entire section.

As with many things, the proper lubrication and correct assembly will provide years of trouble free service.

If the clamp is broken, it can be replaced as the threaded portion of the clamp is removable, not integrated into the frame.

Regards,
-SD

Read the whole story here. I never addressed it (and likely SuperDave didn't either) because it's been pretty well beaten to death. My take on the whole thing is that some ham fisted mechanic overtorqued the seat collar. WISELY, Felt designed the seat collar to break prior to the frame. atl-runner was mad because his broke right before a big race and he couldn't get a replacement. Part of the problem was that he bought off the internet and not locally, so nobody was real anxious to help him. Others have suggested that he might have acted a bit like a jerk, so nobody wanted to help him either. I'll let you be the judge of that and I'll leave my comments to myself.

Bottom line, I discounted the "problem" before I even purchased the bike.

Does USAT let you race like that without any base bars?

usac/uci does

Any guarantees on that? I'd go "aero-or-die" again in a heartbeat if I was certain it wouldn't be disallowed at the last second.

My problem was not with Felt.. Was I happy the clamp broke? No. But I understood it. All I wanted was for the shop I bought the bike from, to get me the part, in time for my race. They had 5 full business days to get it to me. I offered to pay shipping etc, but was told 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it'. Called Felt, and was only offered ground shipping. So yes, I was a bit upset that I had this great bike ready to go, and had a major race that I had to travel to, threatened because of it.

So as to not digress to far from what I posted on here, from what I have heard, while trying to obtain this part, is that the clamps are breaking for a lot of people. I'm not suggesting anything other than that the owner of the bike should have a backup, because he just might need it.

That being said, I have been a Felt owner since day one. I love my B12. She's my baby. I'll probably always be a Felt owner when it comes to Tri bikes. I will not however, ever support the place I bought my bike from again.. This is the third bought from them, by me, my wife, and a friend I took there.. All over the way they handled a 50 cent part.. Which I still don't have.. Guess well see how long they want to play this game.

thanks! Now back to your bike: you said "It's not on the same level of porn shown by others here" My Lord! that is some of the best porn I've seen! the bike is fantastic Don't ever say that again!!! I wish Felt painted its top bikes like this one. The photographs are just fantastic, the location and contrast you wanted, they mate like bread and butter. Just train hard and feel how nice it is to leave those 10k bikes in your wake, (with drag numbers and all that crap)

Congrats and yes your bike and your photos are top level porn

swim smart, ride hard, run harder!

And as far as the "level of porn" goes, I've got a surprise on its way to up the anti a bit. Stay tuned!! (shouldn't be more than 1 week)

It sounds like Felt had the part if they offered standard shipping, so I guess it does seem a bit odd that they wouldn't overnight it for you under the circumstances.

Nice shots and nice ride.

I really like this trend with putting the rear brake behind the BB. I don't care whether it's "more aero" or not, I just like the look (how it cleans up the seat cluster area). Kind of gives the same "simple" impression as a fixie (kind of). So thanks for putting in that close-up of the rear brake.

The only thing I don't like is how the cables enter the frame. Not any fault of yours, I'm just not a fan of having cables enter the frame vertically behind the stem. Call me a traditionalist curmudgeon...

I like the rear brake back there too, but I'm finding out that the clearance between the crank and the brake is quite close. Bear in mind that I switched from the stock crank to a DA, so I may have created some of the problem, but I cannot ride with the brake caliper beyond approximately 1/4-1/3 open or the opening lever hits the crank. Now I typically do not ride that way anyway, but if for some reason my wheel came out of true and I had to open the caliper a bit, I might not be able to.

just open it full or use the barrel adjuster.

DA cranks are standard on other models, so you did not create any problem.

Made some upgrades to the bike and finally got around to taking some more photos. Thought I'd post here.

Upgrades are really just the wheels, but I did fix the cabling issue. Bike has been great so far. Really enjoying it.

In case you are wondering, the wheels are in support of a good friend's foundation, The JT Foundation. It's organized in honor of his son, JT, who has Autism. The goal is to spread awareness for Autism and to raise funds that are then donated to other Autism related charities.

Looks nice, I like the blue.

I'm thinking about adding some blue next year too, along the lines of this year's hot seller B2 R.

We'll see.

As for the cables, the routing looks better, now chop another inch or so off the housing and tuck them together like greg has with a cable coiler, shirnk wrap, or small zip tie.

SWEET pix.
