I don't know about that. Sprinting, for instance, that feels silly.

I would like to add that one of these days I am going to be the meet director for a distance swimmer meet. There will be none of that 50 free crap. Distance swimmers will not have to sit through insufferable heats of 100s before they can race. ALL distance events, not the "1000/1650, choose one" option, will be offered. The events will be something like this, though not in this order:
500
1000
1650
400 IM
800 free relay
maybe a 1600 free relay at the end for kicks and giggles.

MAYBE 200s of every stroke, so that some 100 show up, and we can have an opportunity to swim circles around their little sprinting tails. Also, sprinters can sometimes be useful, as I've found they can be trained to hold one's lap counters.

I really just want a meet where I can show up and spend the whole time swimming (much like the sprinters do) rather than the warmup, swim a 500, spend the rest of the meet waiting around, swim a 1650. Or worse, warmup, wait for a billion heats of 50s and 100s, swim a 500, wait around, swim a 1650.

Oh believe me I know the feeling, which is why I've been working on my strokes, so that some day I can go to a meet and swim the 200 of each stroke, 200IM, 400 IM, 500, 1000, and 1650. That would be 9 events which would make for a nice 3-day meet:)

I must say I do have a few sprinter friends, though. In college I swam with a girl who is a tenth of a second away from Trials cuts in the 50 and 100 free and, though a sprinter, I like her a lot. Tough as nails girl who taught me a lot about attitude (read: life is simpler when you just don't give a damn about what others think). We trained together in the off season. She liked having me to train with because it's easier to get to the pool when someone's waiting for you and I liked having her around because it's a treat to bask in the aura of someone That Fast.

Eric, you asked about my tethers. I bought
http://www.swim2000.com/category/stretchcords/

Stretchcord short belt
and the extension from that page.

Together they were cheaper than the long one and I figured the combination would work no matter what pool I was in. :-) I'll let you know how they turn out.

That Fast in the pool, but I bet she can't run like you do. She'd be basking in your aura at a tri or run:)

Ya, I'll be interested in your thoughts. To me it just felt really weird to be swimming, or at least doing the swimming motion, and not going anywhere. I fully understand that, well duh, that's the point, but still, it just felt WEIRD. Swimming the super short pool was much more fun, even if it was only 8 strokes per length, at least those 8 were REAL strokes, with flow and all that, and flow on the turns off the wall. I guess I'm just really into the feeling of flow I get in the pool, much more so than anywhere else:)

I've used them in the past and found them to help with technique. I have a slight catch in my stroke when I breathe on the right. If I have tension on a tether and I breathe right, I get pulled back to the wall a bit. I am NOT into the constant flip turn thing.

OK, well enjoy then. To each his own as they say, although this one of the very few things we disagree on:)

Missed my Sunday swim, as due to the 35C/95F temperature, the pool was jam packed & only had two swimming lanes open.

Mixed bag Monday morning, 18th Feb.
900 w/up
2x50 @ 60 - as flat out 25, solid 25
800 build - 12.58
2x50 @ 60 - flat out
100 easy
400 build - 6.19
100 easy
2x200 @ 25 sec rest (3.04, 3.03)
100 easy

3000 LCM. Felt tired today - another big ride/run weekend left me a bit flat.

I always wear my Timex digital "Ironman" watch which has a 50-lap stopwatch, so always have a back-up timing device, except the once a yr it dies. These watches are great but if you read the instructions, technically you're not supposed to push the stop, start, or lap buttons when in the water. I just happened to read this by chance one day, after using these watches in precisely this manner for 25 yrs or so. They work just fine in the water but I suspect that's why they only last 12-18 months:)

Despite all the snot rockets spewed (meh) and unshowered peeps (yawn) that suffered through 200 yards at the end of a reverse tri yesterday at my pool, I swam after it, yesterday and again this AM. But, the three hours I stood manning a bike corner for the race, my back has suffered and big doses of ibuprofen ain't helping. Nevertheless, pool swimming takes the pressure off except for flip turns and pushing off the wall.

I used to have one, the gps one. It died, ran out of batteries, maybe. I bought a garmin 405 for running, and used the timex for swimming sometimes (set on deck, can't stand wearing a watch while swimming). Started using the swim clock only, ended up tossing the pool watch...

How did your sister do in the race? Kudos to you for getting a workout in after.
2h30 on the bike yesterday. Had a run in with a car, landed on my butt, and have a bruised tush... scarum/tailbone hurt the most, but are better today. That was a pleasant surprise as I figured I'd wake up SORE. It hurt a little bit with dolphin kick and the pushoffs.

9.3 mi run + 5000 yds this AM

Shoulders were not stiff from the bike, that was good.

500 w/u
4 x 125 first 50 kick

4 x 150 as 25k/50dr/75s

I just noticed a few things about the challenge.

1. I am only at 49,000 yds and I thought today would put me over 50k.
2. Trexlera wrote it as 100 KM not 100k YARDS. I have more swimming to do than I thought!
3. Both HS and Trexlera are ahead of me.
