Pasta is harder for me than bread; I don't eat a lot of bread, but probably a good idea to watch it. My thing lately has been eating only salad/veggies and/or meat when I eat out...typically, I'll go for the pasta every time. But last week, I cut back on alcohol, and only ate out once all week (two goals for the week), and my weight stayed the same. Grr....

Exactly. I think we can get all the quality carbs we need without bread, even training for an Ironman. I don't miss it; I don't think I need it, and it sure seems to be working for me. I'm losing about a pound a week. That's really the only major nutritional change I've made (plus I am swimming more too, so that helps.)

I don't drink alcohol at all (just a lifestyle choice). So those are simple carbs I don't have to worry about.

Yeah, that's probably a big help. Okay, I'm committing to two weeks of no alcohol...see what kind of results I see and take it from there. You heard it here first - help keep me honest! ;)

192 this morning. Don't know why because I was 189.5 on Friday and then I had a pretty good weekend of not eating crap and then exercising all weekend.

If I have a big training weekend, my weight is always up on Monday morning. Monday is usually my highest weight of the week despite consistent 6-7 hour weekends. I think it has to do with muscle swelling. Weigh yourself tomorrow morning, you'll probably be lighter!

I usually weigh myself on Mondays and Fridays and I'm almost always lower on Friday than the following Monday so you make a good point.

"It's interesting to me that you mentioned giving up bread. I've always been a carb baby & this year I've cut back on bread, bagels, etc. big time. Last night we had a marvelous beef/barley stew & I normally would have toast with it. The family did & I passed. A few weeks ago that would have been difficult, last night it was easy."
This is the technique that everyone needs to remember: you aren't 'starving yourself' to drop the weight: you need to BE MINDFUL of the habits (in the moment!) which keep the weight on or add the pounds.
Speedy noticed something VERY important: he "would have" had toast with a meal which already had a carb inside. He didn't need the extra carb portion (the toast), but it has been a habit to have the toast.
Instead, Speedy "MINDFULLY" (ie: with all awareness) made the choice to bypass the bread -- and he was ok! No starvation, and he didn't really change too much of his food.
This isn't about "dieting", folks: what you are doing (hopefully) is creating a new LIFESTYLE of always thinking about your food, determining whether you 'need' something, and then testing your full-o-meter to see if you made a quality choice. It's about AWARENESS of your actions and your needs.
Most likely, if you stay to quality-sized portions (as big as the palm of your hand) of quality whole foods, and eat frequently enough, you will NOT be starving except when you need to eat: right after training.
Best to your fitness,
Lauren

Speedy,
Last week 199.5 lbs
This week 194.5 lbs
It looks like a big discrepancy in one week but I was just constipated last Monday.
