This same thing happened to me a few years ago, albeit without moving. I got an offer quit my job and the day before I was to start got a call from HR saying that I didn't have a job. I was pissed but I ended up starting my own company and it worked out for the best. It sucked at first but it all worked out.

Bummer.

I just checked my companies job postings for any IT positions in our Denver office. Unfortunately there's nothing listed.

It seems like they have a lawsuit against the company. They should speak to a lawyer, but there is probably Breach of contract, fraud in the inducement, fraud, deceit, probably some other ones. They should pursue that avenue while they look for a job.

I don't see where I can leave comments on the blog. Her husband might want to check in with temp agencies. When I was unemployed I got paid well doing exactly what I did as a full time employee. These jobs can turn into full time.

Do you know her so you can pass this along?

Thank you all for being so kind and supportive and thoughtful on our behalf. It is, indeed a massive bummer! But we are hoping, thru everyone's kindness and networking, that we'll look back and think this crappy situation was actually an opportunity! The legal term we're becoming familiar with is 'promissory estoppel". Colorado is an employment at will state, so I'm not sure where the balance between the two lies. I'm not a lawyer, but we'll look into it. We're trying to focus on more positive actions like finding DaveyG a job! Thank you all! Very much! And hey....this is my first ever post on Slowtwitch!

I don't live in CO so I'm not sure how it works there but most states have a jobs database that employers post jobs in that may not be on Monster.com. Go to the state website, usually under unemployment information. They set them up for people who are on employment to find work but anyone can use it.

I was unemployed in 2010 for most of the year. I know how terrifying it can be.
