It's generally the weekend after Mom's day, and/or the weekend before Memorial Day.

There's only one weekend that is both of those things in 2017, so I'm gonna guess that AmZof will be on:
Sun 5/21/17.

(there's a slight chance it could be on Mom's day, but unlikely, given that the RD is a fairly new Dad, and I think his wife'd kill him if he was off doing AmZof things all day.)

Here we go, the earliest I've ever started following an AmZof thread.

PS, I want to hit PMZof. Anyone know how hard it is to get in w/o qualifying? My running's improving but I'm not confident about outrunning my AG to qualify.

BUMP.

I have it on good authority that AmZof will be taking place on May 21, 2017.

It's not "official" official, yet, but will be very shortly.

PS - we're about to become actual NP (technically, Gardiner) locals.
Gonna be able to ride to the AmZof bike course in a matter of minutes from the new digs.

ALL YOUR AMZOF KOM'S ARE BELONG TO ME!!!!!

I hope they have good schools in your new neighbourhood, so that your kids don't end up with their father's grammar..... ;)

Welcome to Ulster County, best bicycle riding roads in the country. It all just keeps getting better as you ride north and west towards the beautiful town of Shandaken!

Qualifying is really easy. This year's Long Course Nationals took about 1/2 less time to complete than AZ CWD.

I think its the top 18 rolling to 25 and most age groups didn't have 18 people racing.

Top 18?? I thought it was maybe top 2 or 3 per AG. And I hadn't considered roll down at all.

There is also Open Entry into Powerman Zoffingen. You just start later with the same cut offs.

I just got back last night from trip to run powerman zofingen. Qualifying was pretty easy, basically finish the qualifying race and you are in. I qualified when it was at Dallas ft. Worth, qualifying race was basically an Olympic distance race, doesn't make any sense but that is what it was. I think the race in Cary is a little longer but not much. Regardless.....

If you have the means and get the chance, powerman zofingen is a must do race. Truly a fabulous experience and some major league talent across each age group and the elites. I have done amzof lc twice and I am still struggling to decide which is harder. The course in Switzerland is very difficult, absolutely no joke. The opening run blasts you up a long hill right at the start, which you do twice on the opening leg. The bike has 3 climbs that you do 3 times. I think the climbs are easier at powerman course but bodenburg, the second climb is no joke. Th bike course is longer than at amzof and has some very high speed sections in addition to he climbing. As usual, it comes down to the final run. 2 laps of 15k each. The 2nd run starts with a climb that just goes on forever and shreds your legs but the worst part I think is the downhill running. Legs are put thru a terrible pounding. I didn't think possible but the bike course in Switzerland was more scenic than in new paltz.

A whole bunch of fun suffering. I was more sore after this race than either of the 2 amzof I did. I went into amzof lc and powerman at about the same fitness level and magically, I did both in almost identical times even though distances are a bit different. I am coming to the conclusion that they are equal in terms of difficulty but for different reasons. Powerman is about being able handle the downhill pounding on the run. That just sucked the life right out of my legs from the very start.

I may post a more detailed race report later.

Thx for sharing!!

JM always said that PM Zofingen was longer, but AmZof was hillier, so they worked out to be about the same overall time and difficulty, just in different ways. Your experience seems to confirm that.

Would love to see the RR.

IF I could ever get over my gimpiness, and get back in shape again, I'd love to give PM Zofingen a go.
Since it's in Sept, I'd have most of the season to work up to the fitness to do a LC du like that.

(anybody who does AmZof LC in May gets infinite kudos and respect from me - couldn't imagine trying to tackle that course without months and months of outdoors hilly riding under my belt.)

I got a smart trainer. Rode months and months of virtual hills. That's how I trained for AmZof LC. I just can't seem to pull together a decent run there.

Yeah, scenic is one reason I want to go to Switzerland. Hills are another. I'm not any kind of fast on them but boy do I find them perversely satisfying.
