Crashed Ice (Cycling - 7am yard sale extraordinaire)
Oh man just had booted through an intersection and down hill on the Vancouver greenway (~ Nanaimo st.) Carved through a round-about at say 35km/h then on the the next one - completely covered in ice.

Like dropping onto a skating rink. Lost the front wheel, went down and started sliding.

Good size hip abrasion, elbow a bit and a stiff neck. Cracked my ASUS Screen (in backpack) and banged up the bike a bit. Nothing major. The guy behind me stopped "I saw your lights hit the road" He came through it slow and OK.
Bites - now I'm spooked. Previous cold mornings they had the brine sprinkler out, but I didn't expect any ice today.

Not too bad a crash, eh? Could be worse. This morning my SO was driving on Lake Washington boulevard just south of UW arboretum. This is Seattle. There are some downhill switchbacks right there. They can be technical at speed to inexperienced riders, even in good conditions. This morning was frosty. Same weather you guys are having in Vancouver. Sunny, clear, but cold nights! She saw the aftermath. A cyclist being loaded into an ambulance . :(

Yes I was pretty fortunate. I came out of the pedals and stayed away from the curb. Didn't impact a thing except going down on a good angle at speed on ice. Smarting a bit but that 24hrs healing begins feeling. Took the car today. Might ride tomorrow.

The weather is very weird, this ice is thick and stealth - evident by the crash you described. I rode through winter here years ago and it's usually dry and cold, this is new.

Have not seen studded tires, never used them. Used to ride in the snow too.

This is absolutely new. I've been here 25 years. Don't remember ever seeing this much frost lingering on the pavement into late morning. One or two odd mornings all winter? Sure. But going on 10 days like this? Nope.
