Cleanest Mechanical Front Ends

Cleanest Mechanical Front Ends:
Has anyone got photos of their front end set ups using mechanical shifting?
Wanting to get some inspiration for the front end, and would love to see what others are doing. Saw the new Profile Design Ultimate Aeria Stem which looks handy (aside from Tri Rig's stem of course).

Thanks in advance...

I always thought the SRAM aero shifters that snap to the center after every shift are brilliant. This is coming from a Shimano guy. No pics though, I'm running Dura mech. shifters.

Wait a minute, that's an old P3... how do all the cables enter the frame? Did you drill the top tube?

They are the older Devox Bayonet bars. Mine are the non-UCI compliant bars, which I think are a deeper section base bar. I won't lie, I picked these badlads up on ebay for under a hundred quid. Swapped out the extensions.

How did you get the cables to come out the right end? I'd be interested because I have an old P2 and the front end is a mess...

Here you go, most of the detail in this thread. You need to run something into the frame at least as far as the turn in the top tube/down tube junction, otherwise the cable inner would rub up against the frame interior. Once you get past that turn in the frame it is a straight line down to the BB, just like when you go in through the normal downtube entry holes.

Getting the wire out the other end is pretty much the same as when you wire it normally... ie a pain in the arse. Patience, a torch, a bit of wire bent into a hook, and a pint or two of IPA did it for me.

Original mod

Updated mod (when I swapped to segmented cable housing... which makes it much easier)

how do you guys get the brake cable to drop straight down from the stem? I called my lbs yesterday, inquiring about a center pull brake and they asked me how i planned to do that with a 2012 P2.

The Tririg Sigma XF stem has a built in cable stop. So the housing enters from the side and terminates in the stop, and the inner passes through straight down into the centre pull brake. I found that using segmented housing (mine is the Jagwire Link Elite stuff) helps with turning tight corners and because it is compressionless it takes a bit of the sponginess out of the system.

Edit to add: you can also buy steerer tube spacers with an integrated stop, not sure who makes them though.

A picture will help;

The new Sigma stem has something similar.

A strong (neodymium) magnet can be a big help getting the cable out.

My Felt DA

My P2 is very similar, it has the same front end but different brake.

I made the custom Garmin mount. Pretty much as clean as you can get a mechanical front end.

Very clean - except that straw is an aero brick.
Seriously.
You'd be shocked at how much drag that thing makes.

Unless you are a giraffe w every vertebrae in your neck fused, you probably can trim that a bit.
You should need to stretch down aaaallllmost to your max to reach the straw to drink.

Might even want to consider a flexible tube w a magnet to keep it folded down while not it use, and only raise it when you want a drink.

Me - I'd either give myself a tracheotomy or intubate myself with that thing while in max aero -
I can touch my forehead to my BTA bottle when I'm as low as I can reach.
YMMV.

Here's my whip from yesterday's race.

Vision aluminum basebars, flat cloth bar tape, carefully routed cables, slammed stem, cut steerer tube, cut aerobars.
