Challenge Roth $$$
So I'm heavily considering signing up for 2015 Challenge Roth but not looking to spend half a jackpot to go do it.

Anyone else gone over? Roughly what did it cost you to go?

I am not looking for the most ritzy accommodations but I don't care to look homeless either. I'd be coming from the Northeast. Looks like airfare would be somewhere in the range of $1000pp. $600ish for registration. If I'm going over I'd probably go at least 7-10days. I have no idea what lodging would cost. Plus adding in meals, car, bike fees, etc.... I know I could do more research but figured I'd throw the ? out here to see if anyone else has done it.

Coming up on my 5th IM in a few weeks and have done numerous HIMs. They all just start to become the same after a while. So I thought Challenge Roth looked like a fun event with alot of positive feedback coming out of there every summer. Just ready to do something different and maybe add a cultural aspect to this hobby of mine.

Any feedback/insight to cost would be much appreciated.

I thought there were only like 14 hotel rooms in total.

I've read that people stay in Nuremburg (sp?). There are travel packages available through some agencies as well. Remember, it sells out in like 3 minutes, so there's no guarantee you'll even get in :-)

Check out Ken Glah's Endurance Sports Travel to see what an "all inclusive" package would cost you.

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

Homestay is a great option. Otherwise fly to Frankfurt, hire a car and stay in Nuremberg. Travelling by car in this part of Germany is very easy. Going in the morning to the start is not a problem. there are only triahtletes at this time of the day on the road and all going to the same place. There is a large choice of hotels in Nuremberg, and he city itself is nice to visit. Roth is a unique experience.

What they said - hire car, stay in Nuremberg.
We stayed at Hilton with a breakfast included package.
The breakfast buffet was AWESOME.
It's a bit out of the city action, with not much in the general area, but a good room, close to the autobahn, but not too close.
Took about 25-30 minutes to get to swim start on race day.
Nothing open at half past dark for post race food cravings though.

One of the Aussie groups stays in Spalt, but I don't know much about it.

x 2 on a homestay. I raced last weekend and stayed four nights with a lovely family who lived 2km from the Triathlon Park. They spoilt me rotten and made the experience even more memorable. It was easy to set up and was arranged through the local Tourism office listed on the Roth website.

And of course you actually need to enter first, which is no mean feat as it sold out in 3 1/2 minutes for this year's race. I was super lucky.

Did this years Challenge Roth,
Great Race we stayed in http://www.express-schwabach.de/ it's about 14k from Roth and similar to the swimstart you can get a train into Roth about 5-10min walk from the hotel. There are plenty of supermarkets/restaurants/fast food etc. nearby
we hired a car through http://www.autoeurope.com/ great deal but we had left it late to get a good deal off the usual car hire companies.
Great event defiantly worth doing.

I did it in 2009. Stayed in Nuremburg on the outer limits closest to Roth in a Novotel. Back then it was 90 Euros including the breakfast (which was great).
Travelling was pretty easy to/from the site.

It would probably come out same/cheaper than if you were to fly into and stay in Lake Placid for a week.

Such a great race.

You love love this race - absolutely nothing like it!

I have done it 6 times. I am very fortunate that the race director's wife helped me find a home stay in 1989. I have stayed with the same people all 6 times + one vacation. This time with a family of 5. Walking distance to the expo, finish line, etc. Lots of photos up - at link at http://www.IronmanLawyer.com

Personally, I think the homestay experience adds a lot to the whole experience. Let me know if you have any questions...I am pretty familiar with the race and the area.

BTW - although Nuremberg is a great city, I think folks who stayed there REALLY missed out.

I suggested to Dan a long time ago to have ST make a formal home-stay process to help out folks at races around the world. Looks like it never happened.

Here is my 2014 roth report:

http://coupleofathletes.wordpress.com/...ctators-race-report/

we got plane tickets last minute, 1800 total. bike case transport to there 200$ . Hertz mini van rental 1000$ (with gas). Food and camping: 1000$

My advice:
Fly to nuremburg, take the train to Roth, and camp out in the city of Roth. Rent a bike from there for the race. You must RSVP both of these now. I loved eating at the schmidt bakery.

I did Roth this year and stayed at the hotel Schneider in Allersberg. Full of triathletes over from the UK and US. Only about 10km from Roth or Hilpolstein. I would recommend it.

I just sent you a PM.

Unfortunately we had to have all of our athletes registered last week for 2015, prior to the general entry, and have no more entries. If you get a spot online tomorrow we can still help you with our packages (less the race entry fee). Our group stays 2km from the race start and we shuttle you everywhere, including bike and run course preview during race week and bike transport from Munich airport. http://www.multisportcanada.com/...challenge-roth-2015/

We have entries for Challenge Roth 2015 as part of our 3-night, 5-night or 7-night race travel package. It won't cost you "half a jackpot" or even the equivalent of IMLP 7th Place. The race does sell out quickly with global demand, so if you want to avoid that scenario entirely it only requires a $500 deposit - applied directly to the slot purchase.

Visit here: http://ow.ly/zDU1U
Or, PM and we'll provide a detailed itinerary and more information.

Thanks all for the help and insight! After much thought and consideration I decided to wait a year to register. Even though my wife was fully on board with doing whatever I wanted to do it just doesn't make a lot of sense financially right now. Roth is at the top of my bucket list. I only started considering this as a possibility a few weeks ago so it made me a bit hesitant to register and not having things organized. Next year is my year! I will keep the group options in mind. Sounds like a big help logistically. Plus I'd have no clue what was going on over there once I got on the ground. Again thanks for the help!
