New on Slowtwitch and looking for new carbon race wheels. I've seen some riders on Cognation wheels and have heard good things about them. Does anyone know anything more about them?

I know I'm not answering your question but since you mentioned that you're new to slowtwitch.com you may want to check out the classifieds section. Lots of stuff available. I've bought and sold several things there.
You may find a good deal.

Also, there have been many many discussions on this forum. Try the Search bar to the right of your screen. You may be able to find information on your own instead of waiting for people to reply.

Never seen, nor heard of them. Lots of marketing speak on the website. Novatec hubs. Maybe the wheels are great, maybe not. With Flo and Boyd having lower prices, data from aero testing, why bother with these guys?

Never heard of them... they look like they're selling Chinese manufacture based wheels... you could probably dig and buy the same wheel for half of what they're selling them for direct.
Otherwise I'd jump on some Flo Cycling or ORR Cycling wheels... two companies I'm familiar with, less $$ and good wheels.

Ditto everyone. Their site offers no aerodynamic test data and no commentary on design approach or IP. Not to say that they are inferior because of that, but the major brands all tout their performance claims and back it up with wind tunnel data.
Flo did their sale yesterday, and they have not sold out. It is a total slam dunk to order Flo wheels now, and save $$ from the unknown wheels. Here are a few others in that same price class that are better choices simply from the existence of supporting information.

Just curious but aren't most carbon wheels manufactured in China including Flo?

It's not about them being made in China it's more about quality control. No matter where they're made.
In general the lower the price the lower resources for QC. Not talking about a specific manufacturer.
Not to mention customer service.

The issue is that there are a number of Chinese manufacturers offering "open mold" wheels that are often copies of other designs or designs that they have rights to sell also, as part of their manufacturing contract. The upside to these generic wheels is that they can be very cheap. The down side is that the carbon layup or other elements may not be to the design spec, or the resin may not be to design spec, so the wheels may not have the structural strength or braking performance.
My personal preference is to buy from a company that controls their design IP and tests against their own specifications. That may not be happening with generic, open mold wheels. That is one of the key reasons Flo is so popular. That, and and they are very fast and very inexpensive.

Exactly. Those open mold would not pass quality control because there are none.

dished wheelsSadly, dished closed their doors, but surely they would have been the surefire winner. I'm sure the secondary market for Dished wheels if red hot though....maybe the OP can get a hold of them somewhere. Expect to pay a premium.

ORR wheels are open mold and rebranded. Flo designed their wheels. There is a difference.

ENVE's problem is they don't produce a disc. An 808 and Super 9 is faster than an ENVE 7.8 wheelset. Zipp, ENVE, or Flo is the best carbon clincher wheels you can buy.

A cover solves that quite well. Then you have a wheel set you can race in Kona. Having had a few sets of carbon wheels, including Zipp, Bontrager, Reynolds, HED and a few others, the Enves stand out the minute I start my ride with them. I'm amazed how much difference I feel.

Where then are Flo wheels manufactured? There are four factories. Three are in Taiwan, and one is in Belgium. I know Taiwan/China sounds the same, but - for the most part - there is a big difference. I've heard as high as 95% of the bikes and bike component in the world are coming out of Taiwan. Taiwan is where - again for the most part - the expertise and experience is. Some Taiwanese factories will have facilities in China for cost reasons, but the experience and expertise is coming from Taiwan to keep those factories up to par.
