Can't install crank in BB
I bought a praxis BB to convert PF30 to SRAM GXP. Installed it tonight and can't get my power2max to go in the BB. I measured the spindle on the crank (24mm) and Bottom Bracket (24mm) but I'll be damned if I can get the thing in. It's all greased up but gets past the splines and is stuck

Help?

Stupid question maybe, but is it a SRAM crankarm/spindle?

If it is, light application of force with a mallet is the next step.

Beat the hell out of it with a mallet.

Were the cups installed on the correct sides?

(Are you able to insert crank entirely from the non-drive side? [You shouldn't, and being able to indicates an L/R mixup])

Edit: Misread that it doesn't get past the splines. Probably not incorrect cup sides in that case.

Second the mallet. I measured the bearings and spindle when installing my Quarq and were both the same - just tapped it in no issues (other than risking waking the baby with the banging).

Firstly check everything is correct crank and BB wise and you haven't made a silly installation or ordering error or been sent the wrong thing.

Then take your hammer out and put it far, far away and do not touch it!

Grab some threaded bar in a smaller diameter than the inner dia of your hollow crank axle. Get some big flat washers and some nuts. Pop the splines in the BB then thread the bar through the lot butting the big washers against the crank and the BB. Slowly tighten the nuts until the crank is pressed in and the splines are contacting the washer which is against the BB. Take the washer and nut off that end, pop a deep socket on, long and big enough in diameter to allow the axle to be pulled into it. You can also at this point dremmel a flat washer so the crank axel can pass through the centre and add it between the socket and BB to spread the load more on the BB face. Then press the rest of the axle through.

Take a can of compressed air. While holding it upside down, spray the hollow inside of the shaft. This will cool down the shaft and contract it. It will just slip in without resorting to banging with a mallet.

Grr, after more research I think I bought the wrong thing. The crank is a power2max Type S FSA gossamer and has a 24mm spindle. Frame is PF30. Power2max website says

BB30**, BB86, BB90, BSA68, ITA70

Wheels MFG website has an adapter guide

I think I'm going to have to buy an FSA PF30 bottom brack and then get these adapters from Wheels MFG

I've had the exact same issue with two different bottom brackets with my power2max.

I got a hammer and pounded away for about a minute and a half. Freaked me out but finally went through and spins

ETA: mine's a BB386 EVO.

You do not want the GXP adapter. This is for SRAM cranks only.

You can use the 24mm 'Shimano' adapters from Wheels MFG. They will work, just very tight. Trust me, I used this for over a year.

Just be sure to liberally grease the inside of the adapter cups and the spindle of the crank. It will slide through with some force, but you don't need to beat the hell out of it with a hammer.
