Canada's current fire situation

Saw wild fires in 'British Columbia' on my timeline. Is this in any way/shape/form affecting IM Canada in Whistler?

I just started looking at this. EDIT: Looks like all the fires are north and/or east whistler. Winds look to be coming from the west during the day and from the east at night. Not sure when the winds shift each night but hoping very early so the smoke blows out before the race start!

Here is where I just looked:

Nearest fires to whistler are inland, 80 miles away to the northeast (Ashcroft) and also about 80 miles away to the southeast (Hope). Wind is predominantly from the ocean. It should be fine unless they get new fires next 10 days. Rain is expected today and more rain is in the forecast for the next week. That should help the firefighting efforts.

Just finished our 4 day camp.

Monday was pretty bad in Whistler and we had to cut/modify load for some.

Otherwise the weather was perfect and predictable for whistler....highly unusual.

We have an athlete who was evacuated 2 weeks ago and has opted to stay in whistler, she's on st and may jump in here if she sees this.

Here in Kamloops we have about 15 thousand evacuees, primary concern is with them,

Cheers,

It varies greatly based on the winds right now!

Vancouver was fine over the weekend then Monday it was pretty nasty and it got better Tuesday. Look at air quality reports but it's really hard to know ahead of time what effect it will have on race day.

Here's the link for the Whistler Air Quality Health Index:

A fire could start next to Whistler tomorrow and burn the whole town down.
Forest fires/smoke are unpredictable.
But that's unlikely.
So prepare to race and don't worry about it.

Pretty much this.
Basically raining here now and perfect air, yesterday it was air quality of 7. Anything can happen good or bad over the next hour, week etc.

I was just in Van and drove to Calgary (now in Canmore). There is smoke near Revelstoke and Golden but there was nothing serious enough to close roads or make it uncomfortable to breathe. I know whistler is a ways away from Van, but there was nothing concerning that I could see.

We have been in Calgary since Tue for the 70.3 here...lots of smoke during the drive from CDL here on Tuesday and Wednesday was awful here but today the winds have changed and it has cleared the smoke for now.

It's been off and on all week with smoke from both BC and the Banff fire.
