Blogs and websites with focus on sprint and olympic distance?

I've decided to go all in for the sprint and Olympic distance races and forget all about the 70.3 and ironman distances.

But when searching for blogs and websites about training, living and stuff like that, it's pretty hard to find something about anything else than half- and full ironman.

So do you know about blogs and websites that has the primarily focus on sprint and Olympic distances? You know, the regular stuff about training and so on?

I know that it's not a hugh difference when it comes to training volume, but it's more like the kind of training that's the difference. And I would really like to learn more about that.

And btw, I'm not a rookie on these distances; I'm allready a sub-2 hour Olympic distance finisher after my first season. So mostly I'm looking after resources that can help me optimize all the small Things that's matter on shourt course racing :-)

Even the makeup of the training isn't very different. At your talent level you might have a hard time finding serious discussions about olympic distance outside of ITU racing. Beginner Triathlete has tons of sprint talk, but you have already graduated from that level a long time ago =)


Maybe some ITU focused forums/blogs would be perfect?

I think the biggest details would be:
1. transitions matter a lot, rehearse them, learn to do a flying dismount, plan your clothing accordingly
2. swimming is a bit more important in olympic distance, don't slack
3. yaw angles are lower, pick equipment accordingly

This site is run by training coaches in the UK who focus more on sprint and Olympic distance athletes.

There is some good info on all aspects of the sport ranging from sbr to nutrition. I found much of it useful when I first got into the sport.

My thought is you also should pay more attention to the single sport websites and blogs. The single sport specialists tend to know how to really build speed.

Okay so I'm already aware of Training4cyclists.com witch I think is a pretty good resource for cycling training. But is there something similar websites for swimming and running that you know about? :)

Don't look too hard for outside influences. Pay attention to what makes you faster and do that. The web is so full of crackpot B.S., you can get sucked into "alternative" training methods that just f you up for years at a time.

If your plan is to coach yourself, I think you'd be better served learning some of the fundamentals of training in general rather than trying to mimic what random ITU pros are doing. The most effective effective training plan for you is going to take into account your current abilities/fitness, strengths and weaknesses, and past training load. The off season is a good time to disproportionately focus on weaknesses with big sport specific blocks.

For running info I'd pick up Steve Magness's Science of Running. That will give you a good understanding of how to approach training, and you can apply it to your entire approach. And I'd read whatever you can find that Renato Canova has written. This is a good summary of his approach - https://docs.google.com/...TRhY2NhYjBhZjQz/edit

For cycling, 'Training and racing with a power meter' by Allen and Coggan is good if your a power newb, and Scientific Training for Triathletes by Dr Skiba is worth taking a look at as well.

While you're waiting for those books to arrive in the mail, I'd also check out Joel Filliol's blog. He has a good entry on how to approach swim training.

Once you've digested all of that info, you'll end up putting together a plan that basically has 2 hard days of riding (1 day of longer intervals, 10-20 min & 1 day of shorter intervals, 1-5 min; or make one of those days a progressive long ride or 2-2.5 hr tempo ride) and 2 hard days of running (tempo or fartlek/track & 1.5-2 hr progressive long run), lots of easy running and cycling, and as much swimming as you can stand.

None of these are dedicated to training. That stuff can be very complex and not suited to a single article, except as "general principles" types of things. However, they often have articles or interviews with coaches where they discuss various things, USA Swimming will post videos from coaching workshops, etc...

That said, the most important resource I have is the one between my ears. You need to b able to take all that stuff and filter it down to what you need to do, which means that you have to have an honest appraisal of your own strengths and weaknesses.,

I still laugh at the Filliol responses. The run training summary is full of actionable info. The bike training response is basically just tautology. "we do the right load, and we do the right sessions"

yes. I will aim to do that too!
