Bike kit for IM in rain and ~10 degrees

Assuming a PNW-type all day rain, what would you start off wearing on the bike?

Trikit, base layer top, fitted rain coat, waterproof gloves, leg warmers, toe warmers?

More?

Less?

If it's 10 degees I'm thinking you need to worry about snow and not rain.

Assuming you mean 10c

Whistler 2015 was 8c (felt like 3 with the mountains, rain then descending)

Your day is absolutely ruined if you get so cold

However our day also warmed up considerably on the second half

So you'd also have to prep for what conditions may become

My suggestion: cheap gear you don't care about ditching at an aid station and can do it quickly.

Jacket: yes
Arm sleeves: yes
Gloves: yes
Helmet change or tape: no
Pants: no
Leg warmers: no
Toe sleeves: no

Hahaha. It was whistler that I had to in mind when I posted, and my race WAS ruined that day! I'm coming back this year and trying to be in front of whatever comes that day.

I have never been in these conditions, and I don't envy you. But when it's cold (Miami cold) I use an old pair of tube socks over my bike shoes. I cut a small hole for my cleat to come through.

It helps. Looks a little ridiculous, but it def. keeps me warmer. And you could throw them away without feeling too bad.

If you're dealing with wet in addition to cold, you might want to consider wool or maybe a synthetic fabric that will not lose its warmth when it gets wet.

I was there too, and had a rough go with only a windproof vest in additional to the regular kit. In our defense, it wasn't supposed to be that cold and that wet. Those descents were so cold, I've never been happier to start climbing.

If I was doing it again and know what I know now, I would have a waterproof jacket and waterproof gloves. I think that would have been enough to keep things enjoyable. Hope this year is as nice as last year.
