Bike Purchase
Dilemma, I was given a gift certificate for $1,500 (very generous) at the local bike shop that i want to support....problem is they quoted me 5k for a Specialized Tarmac Pro...which seems way out of line.....and wanted to set up as tt/tri bike...probably not great. They sell Lemond, Specialized, Trek, Serrota...so beholden to those choices.....what bike would you recommend or should i buy frame elsewhere and parts at local bike shop. Thanks.......

maybe a frameset..Specialized Transition or Trek TTX and finish it off with components from eBay. Sounds like the LBS isn't out to do you any favors.

Seems $1500 out of line. Hmm, should that be telling you something. Maybe you shouldn't want to support this LBS.

i agree, but my gift certificate isn't transferable.......so maybe look at it as $1,500 off.....high class problem but bummed that i feel like I could more bang for my buck elsewhere

Do you already have a TT bike? A road bike? Maybe buy a sweet cross bike or spend the money on some nice race wheels.

must it be a bike? how about some nice race wheels? throw in some good tires/tubes etc and you will hit $1500 easily.

MSRP for a Tarmac Pro is $3800... (http://www.specialized.com/...del.jsp?sid=07Tarmac) Maybe you should take that into the shop and ask them what upgrades they've hung on the bike for the extra $1200?

yeah....just checked at another bike shop and got the same price, $3,800.....i only have a road bike and in need of new TT, I also feel Tarmac Pro with tri set up isn't my best choice.....thinking just buy frameset some where else and buy parts there or vice versa..........
