Big KUDO's to WTC about IMTX transfers
Wow, this is so positive that I just had to make a separate thread. Now this is total customer satisfaction. Kudos' WTC!!

Dear IRONMAN Athletes,

As previously communicated, IRONMAN has evaluated all possible bike course options with local stakeholders and is unable to replace the mileage that was lost due to the recent flooding. The 2016 Memorial Hermann IRONMAN North American Championship Texas triathlon will therefore move forward on May 14 with a 94-mile bike course. We understand the frustration some athletes are feeling; however, circumstances out of our control will unfortunately not allow for a safe 112-mile bike course.

While finishers of our race on May 14 will be IRONMAN finishers (as are all finishers of races shortened due to circumstances outside our control), IRONMAN respects that some of you may feel short-changed. Therefore, registered athletes who wish to complete their IRONMAN journey at another race will be given the opportunity to transfer into any open 2016 North American IRONMAN event taking place prior to December 31, 2016. A link to redeem the transfer option will be sent out later today and must be redeemed by Thursday, May 6 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Athletes who opt-in for the transfer will receive additional communication on Monday, May 9 at Noon ET regarding the race they have selected.

We would also like to acknowledge those in the greater Houston area who have been impacted by the severe storms and share the IRONMAN spirit during their recovery.

Thank you,

IRONMAN

Given the circumstances, I would say this is the best possible outcome. Sure the communication could and probably should have been better earlier on, but giving a transfer or the option of still giving a challenging race is probably the best WTC can do at this point.

Hopefully 200 or so people transfer and clear up some of the congestion on the bike course. The number may be a lot less though, at this point.

I would have jumped at this option three or four weeks ago but now it is more difficult to do that for a variety of reasons. I am glad they made this gesture though.

They should have done this sooner.

I can only transfer into an open IM race, but I wany to do *pick a sold out race*

I can only transfer to a race this year and can't defer until next year.

I still want a refund.

Did I miss any?

IMTX will be my first IM. I won't be transferring but am glad WTC made this option available. I have trained to compete not just complete so my place and relative race performance is more important than putting a sticker on my car. I am sure that if we knew the background of the politics we'd be applauding WTC getting a bike course in place. Unfortunately they lost a lot of credibility along the way due to their poor communication so many will see this as too little too late. Even though I'm still in I've been disappointed with how WTC has communicated. I honestly expected more. However, when you think about totally or partially shutting down 100+ miles of road it's amazing we ever get one. But, that's the business they're in.
I hope lots of people transfer including some good performers and my bubble chances of a KQ get greater.

Yes, everybody transfer. Please. It is probably my only change to KQ. ;)

Not here to complain. But at the same time, I don't think "Big KUDO's" are warranted for doing exactly what they should have done. "Good for Ironman for not being complete a-holes and telling their customers to be happy or pound sand!"

Respect. I never asked for it and I honestly dont think they needed to do this but appreciate the gesture for those first timers wanting to finish a full course.

Cheers

To avoid misinformation; I copied and pasted directly from the link provided through Active. So I am pretty sure those races are not available for transfer.

I see now that you were just pasting from the registration link.

But when they said "any open 2016 North American IRONMAN event taking place prior to December 31, 2016," I took that to mean any open 2016 North American IRONMAN event taking place prior to December 31, 2016.

Yes, definite Kudos to WTC, I think that was very generous- and for selfish reasons I would like a lot of people to take advantage of it and make the course less crowded!
