Best website for creating GPX files?
I've been playing around with a few sites but they're pretty buggy and unreliable so I won't mention them. What's a good reliable site that will allow me to paint my route via a map interface then download the gpx file for my garmin??

Thanks!!

1. Use http://www.milermeter.com/ to map out route. Very easy and works well. You just need to map each turn.
2. Use the Export to GPX function (you need to use the bookmark as it explains).
3. Went to http://www.gpsies.com/convert.do to convert the GPX to TCX file.

You can also create a course from Strava either from scratch or you can use a route that you have already completed. Here is how you do that:

Already completed route (can be yours or someone else’s):

1. In Overview, click on the wrench icon.
2. Click on Create Route.
3. Save it.
4. Click View Route.
5. Click on Export. Select your device and download.

From Scratch:

1. You can view your routes from the main menu. Dashboard > My Routes.
2. In the My Routes section, you can click on Create New Route to manually create one.
3. You can save and export as above.

MapMyRide does not export elevation data. I have found that RidewithGPS is pretty reliable and has a good number of different types of maps (bike trails etc).

That would be great! I have seen a couple of race websites doing this lately (very convenient).

So I tried http://www.milermeter.com/ and Garmin with no luck. It may be lack of Browser support (Chrome Mac) but I coud not paint a route. Very frustrating. So I ended up biting the bullet and signed up with ridewithgps.com Now I've got a shiny new Sedona route for my trip. Awesome tool, intuitive and worked from the first try. Worth the $$ Thanks all.

I use RideWithGPS but not sure why you had to pay. I've always just downloaded the gpx or tcx files with a basic (free) membership.

Maybe I was a bit too quick (desperate) and needed an gpx file but it seemed like with the basic version you did not have the ability to create new route from scratch and download the gpx. If you can can, my haste, my bad. Being in the web business myself I don't mind paying a few bucks for value.

It's a good site and only $6 so it's not a big deal. The paid version lets you print PDF maps and write directly to the Garmin rather than saving to a file and copying the file. Probably some other features as well.
