Ben Hoffman's Sub 8 at IM South Africa

Wow, what a killer time on a somewhat slow course (just the rough pavement alone makes the course slow), but looks like they had a low wind day in "windy" Port Elizabeth....49 min swim 4:22 bike, 2:49 run. Looks like him and Nils Frommhold really took it out hard on the bike (put around 7 min into Fredrik Van Lierde, David McNamee, Jan Van Berkel, Eneko Llanos, James Cunnama, Kyle Buckinghan and Josh Amberger who all rode 4:29 after ~ 49 min swim) and then Hoff runs away on the run! It looks like a fast day with that many guys swim-biking that fast.

ST poster Sam Gyde 4:39 on the bike split in M 40-44

And modest as can be in acknowledging Frommhold's seat post issues in the post-race interview.

That's a beastly performance. Kona is going to be very interesting this year.

The Hoff is awesome. Takes care of all the little details, works hard, is super consistent in training, and is a steady performer. Fantastic to see his result this morning.

Hoffman will win Kona this year. Ironman is a fairly predictable sport. And based on past champions, their history before winning, the year leading up to their win, and their training progression, this is Hoffman's year.
