Anyone with some car knowledge?
Considering purchasing my first luxury automobile. I wanted to hear from people who have experience with either one of these cars:

1) 2011 Cadillac cts coupe

2) 2011 Jaguar xf sedan

From people who have known first hand, cadillac seems to make a quality car that will last without much need for repair etc. I don't know much about Jaguar so I am wondering about cost to own as far as maintaining, oil changes, tires, repairs, etc

Not sure where to tell you to go, but people with "car knowledge" don't drive those.

Large number of people would disagree with you and your soap box but that is beside the point

The caddi engine if it stretches the head bolts(i think it is the head bolts) your in for a new motor seems to happen around 120k from the people I know with them.
The jag.....yea I would avoid that

Audi, Mercedes, and BMW are usually more solid. In my opinion ( have had several audi)

That said you have to maintain all of them or you will end up with a pile of scrap

I'm with jackmott here. Why would you waste your money on a "luxury automobile". What a complete waste of money.

Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.

That was in the older Northstar engines. The block was redesigned in 2000 to address the head gasket issues. If you have a 2002+ Northstar and maintain it properly, it's a very reliable engine, with a lot of ponies to boot.....

Go directly to various ownership forums for the cars to gather better opinions and information that may assist in which to purchase.

The Mrs. had a 2011 CTS Wagon (AWD) for a while and loved it. Not a single issue while we owned it.

If I had that much disposable income I'd be buying a BMW.

i test drove the CTS Coupe and unlike all Cadillac it has extremely uncomfortable seats, and very limited view out of the front windshield as well as rear. (something i am sure you could get used to but...) Otherwise its an awesome car, id take the CTS out of those 2. If i can throw in a third car in there I'd get the Lexus GS

My 2012 Ford Flex with Ecoboost has about 360 horses, great torque and bikes easily fit in the back. :-)

If I had to choose between those 2, I'd take the Acura TSX or the Lexus IS.

Yeah, a normal car today is like a spaceship compared to what we had a few years back. I've got a 2013 Xterra and it is incredible.

Correct Answer is...

Get a Honda Accord EX-L... then hire a good coach, new tri bike and do more races.... and buy your wife some nice jewelry.

DrTriKat, I'll address your question since I'm not sure if there is enough room left on the soapbox, and since it is positioned so high above the rest of us I wouldn't want you to fall. Think about why someone would want a nice bike when a normal bike pedals just fine? Why someone would want a nice quality pair of shoes when wal mart shoes cover your feet? I enjoy driving cars, these cars happen to be a blast to drive. They happen to be of a higher quality than a large number of automobiles. I would prefer to spend my money on a quality vehicle as opposed to vacations, bikes, etc.

Thanks for all the advice from those who shared experiences.

Which is legit, and if I had enough money I'd prolly upgrade from a used Honda fit or similar too.

But not if I had to get a car loan to do it.

And really a 2011 used jag isn't crazy because they depreciate a lot as people are worried about reliability but by 2011 they had fixed most of those issues.

BUT, think of all the hookers and blow you can afford if you just get a Ford focus ST

If I were comparing those two, I'd find out what Top Gear thought of them. Would be a bit more entertaining than a Caddy or Jag forum.
This one looks about right: (whoops, just noticed you said XF - not at all the same)
I'm guessing they didn't bother with the CTS and went straight for the V (what I would do, too).
