Have you raced Trooper before?
It's got a nice hill in it.

You said a lot of things that day - I doubt you remember most of them.
Based on its effect upon you, the USFDA determined that Beet Beer was too dangerous to be legal.

no I have not done the race before, but i mapped out the course the other day and saw a fun one at around mile 10-11 or so.. Dug Hill road i think it was called. According to mapmyride.com it maxes at about 20% for very short distance with 5-600 vertical feet or so total for the climb? (always hard to tell exactly on mapmyride..). I've got to imagine that there are plenty of people who can't ride the entire climb??

Exactly - Dug Hill Road. As tempting as it is to hammer the flats and downhill in the first 10 miles (in the first year of the event, with a tail wind on Rt. 28, I forced the lead State Trooper vehicle over the 45 MPH limit twice), save something for Dug Hill. I'll try to be there to cheer you all on - perhaps the sound of bagpipes will help. I've done Trooper every year since it was created, but I'm not racing this year. It's a great event - you'll have fun.

It tasted like bubbly, beet-flavoured Gatorade!

Sorry I didn't do a clever hiatus-ending post this year.
Too tired and hung over today to post what I'd originally planned.

My post-race training is on epic form right now.
Definitely going to win the T4 prime this year.

I had a nice chat with Doug, who posts here on ST.
He's a woodworker who volunteered to create the G. Chris Gleason Memorial Cup.
It's almost ready to be shipped to us.
It will be a perpetual trophy, with each year's winner's name added to it.
It will have a big honkin' stein on top, from which the winner will drink a toast to Chris.
During the year, the trophy will be housed with Chris' family.
Slainte, bitches!

I'll be sure to pass the trophy around, after I've had the first drink from it.

As I understand, the trophy is rather large and somewhat delicate. Therefore, it must be securely hoisted only by those with hulking biceps, a rippling core, and upturned wrists.

Wait a second!! Not so hasty here. Where does it say last year's champion tips the cup first. Your gonna need to prove you earned it and that's not the vision I have of how May 20th is going to go.

Rich - yer getting old, need to get that vision checked.

I'm gonna hafta be far enough ahead after the 2nd bike that yo can't run me down.
Well - that's my story, and I'm sticking with it.

PS - sheesh, 3 minutes slower at Boston this year?
Must be the aging up.
;-)

(seriously - that was an insane result. Mega impressive)

Wait a minute. What's with the compliments? Is this some kind of trick? Some kind of mind game? This is how it's supposed to go:

Rich: ML, you're old and delusional. You will lose.
ML: Ha ha youngster. These are my lands and I shall beat you and everyone else into an ugly pulp!
Rich (thinking): Jeesh. Every year the same giant set on this guy. It's only going to make it sweeter.
Rich (to ML): Talk all you want but it ain't happen'in this time.
ML: At least I can back it up. Where did you finish last year? Oh yeah, not first, etc, etc, etc.

Welcome back, sir! Hopefully, Rich has spent so much time running that he forgot where he left his bike last Fall.

Had a wonderful conversation with tetsuoni indeeed. The trophy will by about 3 feet tall and will NOT be delicate! Thursday I do the detail work on the columns and hopefully get the laser engraved portion back. Then the pieces get stained and finished. IWhen I get a tracing of the stein I can do the recess to attach it and then cut threaded metal rods to hold it all together.

Some assembly may be required. I MAY be there, but I do not know. I am racing in NC the day before. (2 mile swim, 88 miles bike, 10 mile run) and with the state of my fitness right now I will be hurting at the end. Really want to be there. While I never met Chris, this spirit I perceive from his friends is what is best about multisport. While I am sure you all miss him, I am equally sure he want you all to continue racing and continue the trash talk! Pick will follow soon.

Doug
