Re: Alpe d'Huez area advice [Twotter]
[ In reply to ]
Ha, we likely crossed paths at some point. I was in Bourg d'Oisons last week, Mon-Fri, after being in Briancon for the Etape.
My favorite ride ended up being the loop going over the Col de la Morte, through Oris en Rattier, then back over the Col d'Ornon. On the la Morte, you will see maybe half a dozen cars and even fewer cyclists, as compared to hundreds on Alpe d'Huez
On Wed I rode over and watched the Tour come through at the bottom of the Ornon, after riding earlier. I didn't feel like trying to beat the road closures to see them on a climb. After the caravan went through, and before the road was fully opened to traffic I was able to "ride behind" the race through the sprint and half way up the Croix de Fer before I decided to turn back (then had to deal with the campers coming down off the climb)
My first time in that area, and it was quite spectacular.
