Wow, I am shaken.
Two fire trucks came within a hair's width of running me off the road at 36 mph (speed limit was 40). It took me all I could possibly do to avoid losing control of my bike. They passed me only to make a left into a gas station that wasn't even a quarter mile down the road.
The thing that really gets me is that when I confronted them, they tried to tell me that I was in the wrong. They nearly killed me and I was in the wrong?
One driver started yelling at me and said I should have been cycling against the flow of traffic, while the other driver said I should have yielded to an emergency vehicle. I explained to them my father was a State Trooper and they were wrong regarding the laws. After that they turned their backs and tried to ignore me.
I wonder if it will hit home that they nearly caused a tragedy trying to save a few seconds fueling up?
