Aero Gurus, Find Chris 0.005 seconds
Here's another example of how little something like shoe covers or trimmed helmet straps matter, yet you guys who comb over every last part could probably find Chris his 0.0051 seconds and World Record.

Here's a photo, any suggestions?

What that photo doesn't show is the 880W. The lack of aero helmet is due to the violent nature of the start I suspect. The kilo probably has too much pilot movement for the use of the tailfin of a traditional aero helmet. Aero helmets need stoic positions.

Little stuff like valve extenders, gloves, and upturned cowhorn ends. Certainly there is time lost there, no?

Time to roll out the DA - track.

if he'd just chop off the upturns on his basebar it's be a good place to start.

So close! That's a real shame to miss like that and I believe it was his last time at the kilo before it dies.

Why not just wait for a hotter, lower barometric pressure day? And make sure he eats his Wheaties.

Kilo remains as a WC event, just got killed at the IOC. I suspect it'll be back however, as next to match sprints, it draws the biggest cheers. I think Chris is going to shift focus to the keirin though so you are right about this being his last chance. I wonder if he shrunk wrapped his shoes/pedals as has been done before?

Sorry, I was a little misleading with my comment. You are correct it is Chris' swansong for the kilo as he is concentrating on the rough and tumble of the keirin now that the kilo has gone from the Olympics. I can't see him missing the shrink wrap trick but you never know.

Front disc would be my first suggestion. Is there a reason he wasn't using one? I'm not familiar with the rules.

Longer tailed aero helmet, better skin suit, flat rear disc, cut bar ends, wear ear plugs, should all equal about 1 sec. gain @880 watts, hope he gets to try it again. Paying attention to air density will be very important.

Dunno, he's outdoors perhaps.

He's used a front disc at worlds before, and an aero helmet, perhaps he's got sponsor obligations.

I seem to recall some of the UK guys using flat discs up front and the Mavic in the back, but seldom outdoors.

He did manage to beat the 500m record by over a second though - looking good for next year's Olympics. It's a shame he didn't close out his kilo career with the record though.
