76,000 Miles a big bike year?

http://crookedlettercycling.com/...nual-mileage-record/

this seemed a pretty decent description of both attempts, unfortunately the british bloke got hit by a moped 2 days ago I think and requires pins and surgery but its an amazing challenge.

Its like - a big bike day might be a double century, a big week could be 7 in a row, but to repeat it for 52 weeks is quite amazing irrespective of who does it

AWESOME!!!

Pretty sure most have never heard about "Million Mile Freddie." A search will reveal a unique individual with a job who rode an UPRIGHT HANDLEBAR BIKE for a cause and rode 50,000 miles a year for years and exceeded 1,000,000 miles.

That is a lot. Three quarters of the record. Which incidentally was set in 1939, by this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/...n_(cyclist_born_1912)

His first race was a 40km time trial, which he did in 65 minutes on a cargo bike, at the age of 14.

This might be a better site. http://www.tommygodwin.com/

A pretty amazing story, made more believable when looking at previous annual records on this site.

Saddle sores - "on the advice of a female cyclist he donned a pair of ladies silk undies and greatly improved his discomfort!"

Wind at his back? - "Tommy would vary his routes daily – most likely to take advantage of the weather conditions (and particularly the prevailing wind direction)"

Regardless of the wind at his back, this is still quite the feat. The site said that he would tend to break the rides up into 4 x 50 miles with rest and eating in between segments. Still a monster year that his employer supported. Help from a bike company. And, good for national spirit at the beginning of the war.

Oh, the good old days when we had more time to ride.

Indoor Triathlete - I thought I was right, until I realized I was wrong.

I think the projects amazing, It would literally require no life for an entire year and would be simply impossible to have any semblance of a home life - its quite a commitment

How do you get that??? Godwin rode 75,065 mi in 1939 so 76,000 in a yr is actually new WR.

In any case, averaging 208.2 mi/day for 365 straight days sounds like saddle-sore hell to me. I would never even consider attempting that:)
