why did you go for the resurfacing in the first place? i looked into resurfacing and decided against it. i went for the hip replacement and it worked like a charm for me. hope you find some relief.

I was in my early 40's and his logic was that replacement surgery was not a perfect science yet. So here we are 10 years later and now both hips lock up. None of these docs seem to know why I have so many issues with pelvic instability. They all want you to do an MRI, and push for surgery which does nothing IMHO. What was your experience?

have you had an MRI? i had my hip replacement 6 years ago. i was 50 something. i was in so much pain and the MRI showed no cartilage. the term they like to use is bone on bone. i found a doctor in texas that does anterior approach and uses what they call a mini implant. which requires the use of crutches for 4 weeks but allows for less bone taken out. he gave me the go ahead to be as active as i wanted. unfortunately i just had to other hip replaced. running now in my future may be questionable but i think i am now to different sports now anyway.

Not a doctor, work in joint replacement. Go get the imaging done. Some designs of hip resurfacing have been pulled off the market in the last 10 years due to metal ion debris/psudotumors and you want to rule that out.

Why are you worried about having and mri? Go get it done and maybe someone can tell you what's wrong. Ten years is a short life cycle for a hip resurfacing. Even a total hip replacement should last longer. Were your devices put in by a hip resuracing specialist? What about your current doctor? First you need to see a hip resurfacing specialist to find out what's going on. Then you might need a revision specialist if it's necessary.
My bilateral Birmingham Hip Resurfacings were done by Dr Scott Marwin at NYU Joint Disease Hospital in NYC on 11/15/11. I started running 6 months later and racing the following November. When done by a HR specialist, hip resurfacing is a great choice for an active person.
