Good on ya Jen....I had to do the bare minimum as I got sunburnt yesterday..Stoopid,summer at the beach..Whaaaaa!!

--

You could get sunburnt running around here without a shirt too, but it is minus 9 and you might get frostbitten first. Agreed on the bike touring analogy. Maybe that's why the Ultraman sounds appealing because it has the touring component to it....well, aside from the last stage....I suppose that could be broken down into 18-20x30 min runs/jogs :-).

I'm debating on taking a day off or chasing the spreadsheet. My target goal is around 60 k per week which I have basically met 5 days into the challenge, so I'm trying to decide if I should be stupid or smart. It really is a nice day around here, with good traction (no ice or snow on the streets, which won't be the case for the next 3 days with a major storm looming, so I'm leaning towards "stupid".

I got on the spin bike for 10 min to warmup the legs and before I knew it I was out the door and 50 min later, I was done 10 k with 8x1min short hills (basically the loop I ran was 1.25K out my front door and includes a hill. I figured this way I can't get too far away from home and overdo it too much if I start to feel good, which we all know often happens once you break through the 15 min period where you're saying, "I'm sore and barely moving"....suddenly before you know it, the pace is down at half marathon race pace and that's where it is easy to overdo it!!! It really was a beautiful day wtih bright sunshine and snow on the ground, so I need to get outside on days like this and get some Vitamin D....obviously a non issue where you are. I may get on the treadmill for another easy 15 minutes this evening after I coach my son's high school XC ski team.

I'd like to run a 10k in the second week of Jan assuming there is no ice and snow on that road course, so I kind of planned to do some extra running at the tail end of December, so a bit of overdoing it was in the plan.

Best of luck on the prep for Challenge Wanaka.

Yesterday, I felt fatigued after my second run and kept yawning in the afternoon. Barely made it home last night from work. I usually feel rejuvenated after a low intensity workout. Last night, I actually thought my plans of running two workouts per day were dashed.

But, this morning woke up refreshed and ready to go. My Bumpass run was the best ever with very little stopping. Can't wait to do my afternoon solo run.

Sorry you're sunburned! I told you about that suntan lotion.

I'm in for the 3-hour (not doing the full 6), but I'd let you get away with the 1-hour..

Ha! I do a lot of that here. It is the same today but thankfully I have speed work on my schedule so it will be a treadmill day.

Yesterday was a cold, snowy and windy run! Leaning into the wind going down @ 3% and barely able to hit 8min/miles on a stretch that I usually run at a 7:20mpm clip. And I loved every second of it! Plus the pooches love running in that kind of weather-no dragging at the end.

As we know, there is a fine line between stupidity and bravery. While I'd like to say we are brave, stupidity is probably a better description given that no one (I hope) is trying to kill us during our runs (well as long as we don't kill ourselves).

My dog, Bumpass, run better in the cold, too.

Hey! Do you have pics of your pooches?

82 degrees here (TX) yesterday. After 3 miles I'm dragging my dogs. I think of it as resistance training.

While running my dog this morning, I thought the same thing. I feel like that guy at the track with a parachute thingy.

Warning, little sidetrack here:

Aargh. Sprained my ankle doing a long trail run with the dog.
Had to be rescued by my wife.
Today truly is the end of the world....as I will have to ride tomorrow instead of run but it doesn't count on the challenge.

For some reason I can't enter workouts. I just signed up and am trying to add the runs I have done since the 15th, but I get kicked out before I can enter the workout.

Mike, the log is not working with IE9. It works with IE8, Google Chrome and Firefox from what I understand (although I personally have not used firefox).

always nice to feel a little progress. on the treadmill at 21:45h tonight, and my 45 second 10% intervals @ 8:57 magically morphed in to 60 sec 10% intervals @ 8:41 without much real effort. it never ceases to amaze me that training actually works.

Well, I'm out. 10 days in a row but my left heel is starting to squawk. Need to water run for a while until it calms down. I'll be watching from the sidelines though!
