Razorback Steve, I saw your screen name. Good to have a fellow Hog on the board. I was a Freshman at the UofA when we won the title.

Good luck with the challenge.

Indeed, there is a good story behind Bumpass' name. My husband and I competed as a team in a triathlon at Lake Anna in Virginia, which is in the county of Bumpass. We met Bumpass at the race. He was an animal rescue and we had to have him. He's been the best dog. Not a great runner though!

I say put that Garmin on your dogs. Ultra-tri-Guy and Francois need the competition.

"The Rumpass in the Bumpass?"

No, it was the Giant Acorn International race and our first team triathlon. A lot of fun!

I need to do Rumpass in the Bumpass for the shirt. :)

Dev,

To meet this challenge, I've decided to turn my 40-minute morning walks with the dog to a run. This morning Bumpass and I surpassed our usual time of 40 minutes and went 50, but there was one pit stop and a couple unplanned squirrel chases. During these moments, I plan to keep moving my feet or just subtract a few minutes from my overall time. Hope this sounds fair, as I will still plan to run on my own most afternoons for 100 days.

Hope everyone can keep up!

Bumpass, after a run!

the rules are simple; catch squirrel, get credit. no catch squirrel, no get credit.

No squirrels here so I'm changing SQUIRREL to IGUANA. :) Course, he has yet to catch one. They run surprisingly fast. When we have a hurricane we all sardine in the concrete room at the back. This was during hurricane Rina. He's a small dog but runs 20k+ a week.

and while he hates the water, it doesn't keep the kids from taking him out in it...

Darn!

I did think about setting up his own account for the challenge.

Dogs are welcome on the challenge. Set your beast up with his account....you may need to enter the data though!

There's gotta be a "Paws my Garmin" joke in there someplace

I dunno...there could be a market for dog Garmins. I'm thinking for working dogs, not your average suburban Fido.

If the dog wasn't too friendly, it would be a Grrrrrmin

Oh shit...lol! Nicely done.

Dude, it's a million dollar idea that doesn't even require new technology. Dog owners spend millions a year on dumber stuff, though, arguably not the same owners.

HA! Much like our one cat [Peekaboo], it was just lying there, waiting to be picked up!!!

The other cat, on the other hand [Finn], thinks he's a dog, so we could get a little bit of mileage outta him - mostly in the form of confused wind-sprints throughout the house

Great idea. I am struggling with motivation after last IM. Doing a 100km ultra in 5 months and think that this will kick start my training. There is a serious risk of obsession here though.

Might have to get my wife to change my password again so don't keep checking progress.

North Face 100 near Sydney. Pretty hilly in the Blue Mountains.
1000 entries sold in one week so I plenty of people around the whole race

I'm in for that one as well.

My dad lives in Katoomba and I know those trails (and those stairs) very well.My Christmas morning and most of Boxing Day will be spent going up and down those bloody hills..

For the trail enthusiasts here on ST,Karno came down and did this run one year and said it was the hardest 100k he had ever seen..I am not at all surprised!

With all due respect, Dean "The Ultramarathon Man" Karnazes [also known as "The Stunt Tunner"] is far too much of a douche to have a shorty nickname like Parko, Welchie, Crowie or Macca

Carry on

100/100 Challenge Training Tip:
Working with a training plan. it is really important with any plan is to maintain consistency. It is also important that the athlete learn is body and make increases to mileage based on his background. Ability, Time availability, Injury History, Time required for recovery etc. You want to make your increrases gradually and eliminate the possibility of injury or illness. It is also important to learn when to back off or make adjustments to a training plan. You want a plan that builds endurance, strength, speed and you want a periodization plan of the right thing at the right time, which will get you to the peak race in optimal conditioning
Train at the appropriate intensities in the endurance phase as it prepares your body for what lies ahead as you get more intensity. As the endutranc ephase progresses you may begin to add moderate paced efforts at the ends of runs (marathon pace) and striders for s[peed development.

I am 4 for 4 as of yesterday and should get my 5th in today. Last night I had to do double duty, 1 run by myself with some effort and 1 with the dog. He is a ~10-11min/mile dog but once he gets a stick in his mouth he ups the tempo to about ~9min/mile and is ready for home.

Just think how much nicer it will be when you are having strong races next year. Heard a term about Races Horses and they call training heroes "Morning Glory's" Meaning they are better in training than they are in races. Use this to prepare for peak races..
It did make me laugh though.

I believe if you and Mrs Shady adoped a vigorous wheelbarrow position you may just qualify under Dev's rules.....

"One foot off the ground whilst making forward motion"

Lasting 30 mins may prove the hardest part though...

I wonder if my wife would be confused if I got done, jumped up, and told her I had to do a 29:52 run to finish my workout...

Why did this challenge have to start on a Saturday which is normally the only day I don't run? :)

Got in a 30 minute run this AM, and will do another 30min in the evening to catch up for my 5th run. I've always wanted to experiment with doubles, so why not now. I am spreading my mileage bit thinner than normal to account for it though.
