Ironwolf, are you based in Beijing?

Run number 2 in the books....16.2K, 1:33 in crazy biting wind and minus 10C with a light dusting of snow making the traction poor. We were doing hill repeats on Parliament Hill complete with the RCMP police escort (they have nothing better to do so they cruise around and keep their eyes on the runners...not sure if they were drinking coffee and eating Tim Horton's donuts, but maybe next week for our group run we could bring them an Xmas present). Only in Canada can we finish our intervals 5 feet from the front step of Parliament. Love this country. No chance of doing that at Tiannamen Square (well, surprisingly you can get pretty close to their seat of government too, but you have a full regimental escort to keep you honest).

First time doing this...

I really dedicated 2012 to logging a ton of run miles, a little over 2500. I just took a week off and a week easy. Yesterday was the first day back in the saddle for keeps, it felt really good. I'm planning on using the second half of the 50 days to start consistent speedwork, since I really didn't do any consistently last year. Looking forward to this challenge. Thanks Dev.

I'm in. I'm working with a new coach and she will be good for me. The 40* and rain I've been running in for the last 2 weeks is demoralizing but now that someone is cracking the whip I'm actually getting out there.

I won't hit 100 but I'll get close.

My PB on annual mileage was 1200. I think that was 2010 with DD coaching me.

2/2.
35 mins on the tready at the Hilton in O'Hare Intl. Threw in 3miles tempo to make it interesting.
Unfortunately for me, I'm about to jump on a flight on Sunday and get off on Tuesday in Oz so I'll go from 2/2 to 2/3 pretty darn quickly :( Part of the fun, I 'spose

Don't you have a stop in LAX.....should be able to find 30 minutes for a run. Once in SFO aiport, I just ran up and down a flight of stairs for 15 minutes (in view of my luggage). I figured I'd be sitting for half a day after that so 15 minute of running stairs was a good workout. You might get some weird looks, but who cares (OK, I was also running in dress shoes and dress pants, but you gotta do what you gotta do....I don't care if a few strangers think I am weird. It's not like I know them anyway). 30 minutes of running stairs in an airport would be a killer workout. You might be sore for several days.

Yep.. I'll land in LAX in about 6hrs.. where it will still be the 16th.. I have a few hrs so I might try and get a 2nd in, if it isn't too much trouble. Then I'm on the plane and landing on the morning of the 18th in SYD - still plenty of time to get a run in there once arrived!
At a minimum, I'll do some squats, lunges and other plyo stuff at the gate :P

In the past on layovers in Vancouver, I have taken a walk out of security and gone over to the Fairmont Vanvouver airport and pad them $15 to use their gym. Not sure if you have an option like that in LAX, but you obviously have time and a workout between long legs is really nice, both mentally and physically.

Marcag, that is awesome starting in Munich. Do me a favour if you can....you SHOULD be able to go to Munich's 1972 Olympic stadium and actually get in and run inside. Do a Frank Shorter/LasseViren loop for us! Post some pictures.

I could not get in so I had to loop around the stadium from the outside.

But this is what Shorter saw arriving into the stadium

Shooting for gold, hoping for bronze......

I'm not much of a runner, but I've made up my mind to change that this/next year. However, I'm also having a difficult time logging in my run. Help? Workout log pops up briefly than disappears in a matter of seconds. Thank you.

There are some problems with the training log utility if you use IE9. I had to download google chrome and it works fine.

Marcag, thanks for posting the entrance to the Munich Olympic Stadium at the finish of the 72 marathon. That is why I love this challenge. There is always someone in some special place doing something crazy. Imagine being Shorter running through there. In 2007, I was able to run through that entrance and run a loop in the stadium. No luck in Beijing as it was all locked up....and as you have probably read on the front page, I did get to run inside the Seoul Olympic Stadium. My son is getting pumped about one day swimming in pool in London where Phelps swam this past summer. I hope to be able to take him there. Something about running in the footsteps of Champions.

For those who did not see it in the grievance thread, on Dec 14th (day before the challenge), I ran at the Iffley Road Roger Bannister Track in Oxford....it was the run of a lifetime that I have waited to do for 30 years. I just wished I'd run it like 25 years ago when I could run a 4:4x mile instead of running a 6:26 :-(. It was very cool running at the site of the "original mile split"....the funny thing is that I was telling my father about it as he was in high school in that year when Hillary did Everest, Bannister did the mile and Elizabeth became Queen and he had no clue about who Bannister was....but for me, Bannister was a hero, blazing the trail for 3 generations of runners who followed.

That is a great shot of the stadium entrance. This is one of the reason why I am a runner since 1969. True inspiration great for the 100/100 . Run This photo again near the 100 day mark. Espn just replayed the 72 marathon a few months ago and I did not remember that Shorter was born in Munich. They often say about the winner of the Olympic Marathon that their life will never again be the same once the emerge from that tunnel. How True. These are the treasures of our sport
Thanks again

Dev,
Great photo. These hollow grounds are the things we dreamed about as youths starting out in sport. These are simple pleasures that really make an athletic life.

Then you'll love this sign....the rest of us, every time we record a split, we follow in the footsteps of that "original split". By breaking through the " impossible", he, along with Chataway, and his compatriot from Oz, Landy, allowed all of us to believe that there are no limits to "possibility".

2 for 2 and I'm ranked, wait for it, eighty-first currently. Lots of people with very good intentions. I'm thinking that by this time next week I should have made up some ground :-)

Also, not running my long run today hurt my ranking I think. That's actually one of the very few good things about my current, non-working, status: I can do my long run whenever I damn well please. Not in the weekend is actually better due to family life.

2 for 2 so far, 35 min treadmill yesterday and 8 miles outside today.

Last year I managed 100 runs in 100 days, no days off, no doubles. Definitely taking some days off this year, but still aiming for the full 100.

Cheer!
