13.2 miles w/ a nasty north wind and flurries, but no snow on the ground. Relatively speaking not too bad of a day. According to Strava, a pretty decent time ( for me ).

Planning a recovery run + time on the bike tomorrow.

Dude tat is like a tenth farther then a half Mary Thats right i said Mary:0)
did my 8.40 miles on the dreadmilll because I am a wuss. I dont mind the cold but the damn wind you could have that. I did nail my run though and ny last 15 minutes at a moderate pace was very easy. Think that was my first run logging in over a hour for the challenge. Hopefully first of many.

I ran 30 minutes today, but baked cookies for six hours. I deserve extra brownie points. Baking cookies is more challenging than running. I thought about running in place between batches, but I'm giving everyone a break.

Post kind of related to the 100/100. It is amazing how your life can change in second. In July 2012, I slammed into a house during the bike course at IM Switzerland. Every day is a work in progress. Only this month I "graduated" from waking up every morning with a headache and neck pain to waking up only 5 out of 7 days that way. I've come a long way since this time last year, but I was reminded today that there is still a long way to go.

I coach my son's high school and club XC ski team. Today I was out with the kids at the club and I was "HOPING" that my left leg would work OK for balance on skis without having my lower leg randomly involuntarily cramp up due to the orthopedic/nerve damage etc as I have not had that problem biking for several months and have been OK for running (even though I lack power in my left leg, thus the reasoning why full speed mile speed is like 30 seconds per mile slower than it used to be).

But I'm fine with being slower, because by and large I can do the triathlon sports without feeling like an invalid of sorts, but back on skis, "no go".

I've been to physio for rehab and seeing various doctors, to get to the root, but no one seems to. I think something happens down in my metatarsels through my ankle causing my left foot to supinate when it is not supposed to (feeling of an uncontrollable cramp on every stride). Anyway, I no longer have this cycling , running or walking, so that is progress and at least mentally "day to day" I'm at peace that the "new me" is a different machine from the "old me". Forget about the post concussion/neurological setbacks.....you kind of get used to many of those and deal with them.

Today, a bit harder to accept, because coaching these kids allows me to be integrated into the teenage crew, push them and pass on everything we learned through our lives to make them better athletes and people. All of these kids race on skis and some race bikes, running and triathlon. I even have an exchange student from Japan, just learning on skis (while I have other kids who race 10K in 23-25 minutes). So I want to be a part of this, partially because they need me to coach them, partially because I know I can add value to their lives.

But at the same time, when I can barely use my legs and I have to get around just using my upper body it makes it hard to demonstrate proper form (well, I can't). Coaching skiing, you have to be there onsite, doing it (to some degree of correctness) with the athletes. Anyway, that's my story for the day. I still got 11K of running in....9K slipping around in the snow in the morning, 2K uphill treadmill run in the evening and I was fine for running, but mentally a bit of a deflating day, because I was "hoping" (perhaps foolishly) with all the rehab and other work that I might be OK. I'm not giving up hope. One of the guys who helped me with orthotics last year for cycling, feels that a metatarsel pad in the right place might just align the bones and nerves in my feet in a way that nothing gets compressed in a ski boot. Let's see. Maybe I'll just need to be out on the trails with the kids on snowshoes which I think will be OK. At least I can run the workouts and I have enough kids with really good technique that I can pull them up to demonstrate the drill etc. I suppose there is "always a way".

In August I was talking to Jan de Visser (Chipmunk) of trying to come to terms of using the new body and accepting what it can do and not. Since I had a long layoff from XC skiing, I was "holding out hope" that the "new me" would be OK for this activity. I had not registered for any events in this sport partially to "let go" in case I can't, so I am glad I did not enter anything (I have done the Canadian World Loppet 50K XC ski race for 23 years in a row.....last year, I just got it done, but I was doing more harm than good....glad I did not register). Skate skiing is my favourite sport, so it will be a bit hard to deal with it, but I have to (which is part of the reason for actually writing it out). I can do the tri sports and I should be fine for getting around on snowshoes. I'll also try classic skiing and see how that goes....but frankly, I'd rather run than classic ski.

The good news is that I am 8/8. My plan is to be 8/10 on a regular basis, so I am a few sessions ahead for now.

Mmmm....cookies.

Got in an hour with speedwork. Felt really good. It helps that the sun was out for a short bit.

BTW - I'm now tracking these in 4 difference places. Dailymile, ST Training Log, Garmin Connect and Addaero which I use with my coach. Redonkulous.

I don't think you are a wuss for treadmilling (plenty of other reasons, like using the word Mary ... but not that) ... I am doing all my running on a treadmill for the time being. Unfortunately it is almost impossible to run on the roads at the resort. The weather has been so snowy there is not even a shoulder to get out of the way of tourist traffic. I would rather get through this winter intact.

I am down three pounds out of my 10 pound goal for this 100 days. Probably just dehydration, but I am counting it anyway. If I hit my goal (158) I will be as light as I have been since I was 16. We'll see what that does for my 5km time in the spring. Maybe sub 18? I am 45 with bad knees, but it still might be doable.

I might need to get on the treadmill again tonite....seems like Ultratriguy is 1 kilometer ahead of me on "distance"! I feel like the stupid spreadsheet is sucking me in, but I have to resist for at least a month.

Well, in that case, I'll be off the back. In general I plan single run days, but if I up my goal from 80/100 to 100/100, then I might need to re evaluate the strategy. I might have more time to run than anticipated if I don't XC ski this winter.

Just finished my first ever 50+ mile week because of this challenge. I could've have done more but I was really happy with that. I started doing the BarryP plan at the beginning of the month this works perfectly.

Just back from a nice 18.6km with the dog. Yeah, she's nappin' now. Sounds like a good idea.

I just finished my first double since HS.

Damn you. Damn this challenge. I hate you all.

To further frack things up, I'm considering another double tomorrow just even things out. This had better be worth it.

Oh, and just like in HS, I'm following up my second run with a couple of glasses of wine. Nothing like a negative attitude on alcohol. See you in the morning.

Got called into work so ran on the dreadmill there. 4.62 miles in 34 minutes. First ate dinner though it was Pasta meatballs and sausage.. I should have given digestion another half hour though before run. Run felt labored and heavy. Fist time I hit over over 40 miles in a week in a long time. Still mixing in swimming and biking. Did a hour (53 min really) on the computrainer also today. IM Wisxonsin course from mile 56.

Hey Guys i have a question.

I was wondering how you guys measure progress in your running form during this challenge. I aim to run a half marathon and a few 10k and 10 mile races in my "season" (end of may thru end of june).

I tend to shy a way from using racing as a fitness gauge as I get tend to have a very long recovery from anything 5k and up. This year I want to run a 1500 or 3000 end of every month too measure progress and estimate vo2max and estimate new training paces.

As someone training for 10k and longer events does it really matter wheter I use 1500 or 3000 as a fitness gauge? how do you guys measure progress?
