I have Ultegra cranks (FC-6500) and Ultegra bottom bracket (BB-6600), but intructions with cranks say to use BB-6500. Will the 6600s work? Both are Octalink. Both 68 mm english threasd. Will the 6600 bottom bracket work?

The 6500 cranks are Octalink 9-speed cranks, but the 6600 bottom bracket is a 10-speed BB. It isn't Octalink - that BB has the external bearing and isn't compatible with the older 9-speed stuff.
Either it's Octalink and it's not the 6600, or it is Octalink and you have the wrong model number.

The BB at the top is supposed to be the 6600 which is not compatible with the FC 6500 crank. You want the 6500 double bottom bracket.
