This could have been ugly...

A perfectly good rim destroyed by

That's a blurry picture of a branch: two indents on top show where the fork stopped it, and a bunch of cuts on the bottom show where each of the pairs of bladed spokes committed hari kiri trying to cut through it.

How it kicked into my front wheel, I haven't a clue. Lucky for me, I was pulling into my driveway at the time, and the wheel held up enough to merely stop my in my tracks rather than collapsing and providing me an up-close-and-personal with the ground.

Now I have a week to convert the rear 28 spoke rim to a front (this was an 18 spoke front).

It's only money (sigh).

Why not just get the front hub built with a new rim??? I can't see sacrificing a perfectly good rear wheel...especially when the spoke count is not the same...

Because I never use the rear wheel, and a new front hub should be a lot cheaper than a deep front rim.

Was it a carbon fork? Are you getting a new fork too?

Check that thing carefully and be safe.

Checked the fork: the Wolf was stronger than the rim, thank heavans.

Yes, no more training with a carbon wheel.

Looks like you fared a little worse than when my derailure jammed itself into my rear 404 at mile 52 of the bike day 3 at the TTT. That only broke one spoke, bent the hanger and twisted up the derailure. Total replacement cost for mine was 41.25 for zipp to repair wheel + 130 for new da derailure + 30 for new da chain total with shipping roughly 200. Your right its only money :P

is the wheel completly trashed or can you just respoke it etc ?

See those little bits sticking out of the inside of the rim where the spokes used to be? That's bits of rim. Toast.
