Bow to me; I am a queen of healthy coping skills.

Last week’s goals
1. 7/7 healthy coping- done! Now 26 days in a row!
2. Continue to make smart choices easing back to sport - done!
3. Journal daily - done!
4. PT exercises as directed - done!
5. Practice 2 min pauses daily - did some days
6. no run Monday - done!

Sports didn't go awesome. It turns out I upped the running too quickly in "volume" (it feels silly saying this) and pace since I started. But once I figured that out I made smarter choices. And I am keeping my promises to myself - like if I plan "I will take a day off" I've been doing it, not getting up and second guessing.

I had pain on both M and W swimming and couldn't get ahold of the PT (he said it was ok to text; I did that but he was away and hadn't brought the work phone) so I didn't swim after Wed. I look forward to seeing him tomorrow.

M - 2000 yd swim
T - 5.5 mi run, 4.4 mi walk
W - 2000 yd swim
T - off
F - 4.6 mi run, 4 mi walk
S - 5.1 mi run, 4.3 mi walk
S - off

Stay tuned for a much more gradual get back to stuff for both swim and run.

Goals for this week
1. Another 7/7 healthy coping to get over the month in a row mark
2. journal daily
3. PT exercises as directed
4. Return to swim and run as directed by PT
5. Practice 2 min pauses twice daily

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

Now 3 weeks until first race (2 training weeks + a taper/travel week). For the week ahead my goal is simply to back-up last weeks effort with another good week. And practice race nutrition.

Another solid week of training: 13k swim, 7.5hrs bike, 3.5hrs run, got key sessions done (bit less fresh than the previous week), strength session done (which kinda wrecked my legs for my long ride … maybe need to rethink weekly routine for rest of year … oh to be young again). 2 of 4 prehab sessions done … been a while since I did all planned rehab sessions in a week … must do better before I have regrets. Practiced my race nutrition - still not 100% sure about it. Hamstring tendon feeling the best it has for 18 months :-)

Now 2 weeks until first race - sh*t, where did the time go? A week or so of training left, sandwiched between a few easy days at the start and end of this 2 week period. Do I feel ready? Not really … mini race simulation on Sunday might boost confidence (or not!) ... and hopefully race nutrition will feel good (which would be a first!).

On nutrition: I have a strategy … if I eat more good stuff there won’t be any room for less good stuff. First step - have a smoothie every day.

(2) Organization (a) plan ahead (b) reduce ill-spent time.
(3) Music (a) violin 5X 20+ min (b) cello 4X 20+ min

Last week:
1) Do workouts as planned - one day switched and one minor life modification
2) Do PT/prehab work everyday - lol. I did stretch all days after posting this weekend
3) Healthy nutrition - B-
4) Look at goals list in am, midday and pm - B-

This week
1) do workouts as planned
2) do recovery/activation from McMillan or recovery app 3 x this week (maybe if I work up to 7….)
3) Healthy nutrition
4) check in here 3x

Nice job last week everyone! Way to keep chugging along.

Move on. Keep training. Be an adult.

27 days in a row of healthy coping

I stuck to my plan this AM (1000 yd swim, 1 mi run). Swim felt fine for 700 then infraspinatus talked a little. Run didn’t feel good, had pain. PT later. Feeling a little tiny more hopeful on swim and hopeless in terms of running

The result I desire from today is a plan moving forward and my 28th day of healthy coping

You're kind to ask. I upped miles too much in December and developed what an MRI diagnosed as ischiofemoral impingement. Cortinsone shot on 4/9/24 that helped a little, was doing pretty well, then I upped miles and speed at the same time and wound up in pain again. Plus I've got all these bruises from kicking myself for upping mileage and speed at the same time now...

updated PT plan: ok to swim 1000-2000 every other day, pay attention to pain levels in terms of setting distance. SELF GOAL: KEEP IT TO 1000 yards. He would like me to walk 30-60 min easy each day to get back to pain free motion, he thinks the hamstring pain right now is muscle guarding.

Again, you are kind to ask, I've had so many injuries I think people are tired of me talking about them (I would be tired of me too) but I keep trying to learn and do better - and I have made massive progress there. I really, really have.

Well, this seems like the place to talk about them. Maybe we should call it the ‘accountability and support’ thread! Hadn’t heard of that condition before - sounds awkward - the rehab will make you stronger, but you know that already.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, Tigerchik, but this is exactly the place to vent. I agree completely with Chowders about the support thread.

Progress:
Academic (what I gravitate towards): analysis (2X totalling 5 hrs, but first day not well spent), algebra (2X: 3hrs), physics (2X: 2hrs); all on track
Sports: walk 12k steps: 2X; bike: 1X; swim: 0X; just felt beat up (and foot felt worse) after the bike; may be upping too fast, so backing off swim and bike expectations. In addition feeling bloated and logy (by >30 lbs), so I have to work around that.
Music: violin: (2X, 1:10), cello (1X, 40min); violin on track, cello OK; stamina for playing is WAY down

Taking naps after dinner, but finishing (studying) about 4 am and waking up about 8 am, so I need to be more efficient; overall pleased so far. (This weekly thread is really helpful.)

This weekly thread is really helpful.

I'm glad to hear it's helpful for others aside from me!

I'm 3/3 for the week.
I think I had a pain-free swim this AM. My hip/hamstring hurt on the PT exercises so I modified those. Feeling bummed about the continued pain. However, my iron was high enough to donate blood today so I'm riding an endorphin rush from that!

I was attempting to do my check in yesterday, but was distracted by family. Which could be the theme of the week.
So far, not the best week (but not the worst either).

Work and the re-flaring of a chronic inflammation forced some workouts to be moved around and then changed completely.
I have not done my stretching (to be fair, I do not think that this what caused the inflammation but it probably doesn't help)
Nutrition is a B+

Aiming for 3 days of stretching/PT/prehab/whatever you want to call it stuff, smart workouts, good nutrition and checking back on myself here tomorrow and Sunday.

Move on. Keep training. Be an adult.

I'm sorry about the inflammation. Is it in a particular spot / an injury or some general thing? No need to answer if you don't want to share. Good job modifying and moving stuff around rather than pushing through something you shouldn't.

Things going pretty well but not perfectly.

Sports (currently my worst): 12k steps every day; bike: can't miss any more days this week, but 1 hr yesterday instead of 30 mins (added tunes and a fan and closed eyes so I wouldn't type A it); swim: probably waits until next week since my bag with my stuff seems to have been cannibalized (6 kids).
Music: Violin and cello (a little behind, but putting in about 30 mins instead of 20; have to be careful with right wrist (tendonitis) since cello requires a lot more bow pressure than violin and I'm not really a cellist, I just have to play it in a concert in 9 days.)
Academics: No days missed in the 3 areas; not jumping from book to book in a given area like I usually do, which is a big improvement.
Overall, for non-daily items only bike can't be missed for the rest of the week (taking a mulligan for swimming.)

No pain getting worse. :-)

Started a diet (eating-man's diet) yesterday, keeping calories down to about 700. Today I eat normally. :-)

Tigerchik: I'm sorry you're dealing with so many injuries, but congrats on your successful streak.
Omelette: Hope you're feeling better.

I hereby decree that things shall go perfectly for everyone from here on out! I DECREE IT!

Cello is beautiful! Coincidentally I played my clarinet yesterday for the first time in years

Yes, it is one spot (on my foot). It's just something I am prone to because of my anatomy and I can mostly manage it but sometimes it flares. It's more annoying than anything else.

Did you do your prehab stuff ?

Yesterday made 31 days in a row! A whole month no matter which one… the last streak I had was 31 days then I effed it up on day 32. I am not going to do that today. I am going to keep the promise to myself to use my healthy skills.

I kept my swim to 1000 today instead of adding - this was a goal

The result I desire from today: day 32, and being as helpful as possible at my friend’s ice cream shop (opening day!)

thanks! yesterday made 32 days! On April 3 I would have had a 32 day streak but I messed it up... so this 32 is a recent record (though not a lifetime PR).

6/6 for the week!
