I'll be flying into Vienna Airport for the Challenge Championship race in Samorin, Slovakia. I'm looking at the options of travelling via bus/train into Bratislava, Slovakia and then renting a car there to get to Samorin for race day/bike racking. Has anyone made this journey before and have any recommendations (do the buses accept bike boxes etc.)? Any help is much appreciated!

Why won't you rent the car in Vienna Airport? You have 100km to Samorin from there (from A to B). I'd rather do that than changing to bus/train to get to Bratislava and then car from Bratislava to Samorin.
If you really want a bus from Vienna to Bratislava, there's a Slovak Lines Express bus. It goes every 1-2h, costs 10 Euro, takes a bike case for extra 5 EUR and you can book online.
