ACCOUNTABILITY THREAD - March 11
This is the weekly accountability that the Womens have decided to offer everyone!
Fitness goals, mental health goals, other stuff welcome.
This is a supportive thread.

The general structure is
1. Report on the extent of your success on achieving last week's goals
2. Set new ones for the coming week

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

goals this week -
1. 7/7 healthy coping skills
2. am wondering if hamstring is getting irritated from the sidestroke kick, so goal this week is to do more resting
3. journal every day
4. hip and shoulder strength as it makes sense
5. remind self my body has a lot going for it - I can walk. I am not in a wheelchair, sling, or crutches.

To catch everyone up, the hamstring thing I was an idiot with run mileage in late Dec/ early Jan, but the shoulder thing I did everything the PT said post surgery and this is just some rotator cuff tendonitis because the collective swim + strength load was too much. Yes it is an overuse injury but I was DOING WHAT I WAS TOLD I COULD DO which is very different from me making poor choices on my own.

1. Done! Now at 28 days in a row of healthy skills! Stardom
2. Done, see below
3. Did most days
4. Done
5. I did this a bit and could have done it a little more

week was
M - off
T - off
W - off
Th - 1200 yd swim, 1200 yd kick (+ ocean dip in Portland ME)
F - 2700 yd kick (+ ocean dip on Mt Desert Island, ME)
S - off
S - 2000 yd swim, 1000 yd kick

goals for this week
1. 7/7 healthy coping skills
2. continue to follow the PT's plan for swimming and shoulder strength
3. journal every day
4. continue to remind self I am not in a wheelchair, sling, or crutches and my body has a lot going for it
5. continue to do things that let hamstring tendonitis heal

I still mostly am not enjoying my life right now - there are some bright moments but they feel vastly overshadowed by months of not being able to work out much - so expect daily updates, as they help me.

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

I neglected to check in last week and wasn’t particularly accountable to my goals.

This week:
1) All workouts as planned
2) proper fueling
3) journal every day
4) finish The Examined Run (anyone else reading this?)
5) 4 x strength/PT exercises

Move on. Keep training. Be an adult.

This week I’m aiming for a solid week of early race build work: 4x swims 11-12k; 4x bike 8hrs; 4-5 runs 3-4hrs; 2x strength. Got quite a bit going on this week so logistics / time mgt will be a challenge. Outside of training, want to spend a good chunk of time on my new project. I’m also trying to get a ‘peer learning’ group up and running for my triathlon squad.

Training was decent: 10.8k swim, 7hrs bike, just under 3hrs run, 1x strength … all of which was a little less than my plan but the week as a whole felt solid and given logistics challenges all good. Going to use the same week template for the next 10 weeks as build to first race and I learned a little about how best to schedule various sessions too so that was good too. Tri squad ‘peer learning’ group is up and running and we discussed some things. I spent way less time on new project than hoped. So basically I did the triathlon things and not so much the other things :-0

This coming week triathlon training is a repeat of last week with a little progression in certain sessions. Noticed that my sleep habits have become a bit slack recently so I’m going to make it a good sleep habits week (and esp no reading on phone in bed).

AND I WILL SPEND MORE TIME ON NEW PROJECT

nice!

What type of Chowders do you like? I am from Maine. People make lots of seafood chowders. I am a vegetarian (but I had a 3-trap lobstering setup one summer, from which other people's chowders benefited)

Haha … not a reference to food (surname is Chowdhry - it’s just a longstanding nickname) so sorry to let the side down on what could have been a beautiful theme for this thread!

That said, I went to Boston as part of my honeymoon many years ago and when we were running low on money were saved by a $5 eat all you can buffet which I remember had a very nice seafood chowders. Also featured on many work trips to Boston a few years back.

And now I think about it I often eat chicken & sweetcorn chowders for lunch … so maybe some name manifesting going on there :-)

Well, last week didn't go as planned.
It started well, with arranging the appointment with the dentist for Wednesday, dealt with some financial stuff, cleaned the office a bit, and studied a bit.

But then TOOTH decided it would be the star of the week. By about 2pm Monday I had an infection (sinuses involved), and the dentist couldn't move up the appointment. Then, when I went in, she said she couldn't extract it because the sinuses were involved. (But I did get antibiotic which helped greatly.) First available appointment with the oral surgeon was Friday, when the tooth was extracted. Have not driven since before last week (too dizzy). Finally got my first stretch of sleep over a half hour on Thursday night. I was a total wreck. (Went to a math department function on Saturday and saw someone I haven't seen in about 20 years. He told me, "You look so OLD!" It was like "So thanks for your input," but he was right; I hadn't had a sleep of over an hour in almost a week.) My sinuses are still clearing out.

So last week's summary is: I did reasonably well until I got wiped out by tooth, with office organization, financial, getting the tooth pulled, and (whether I liked it or not) being careful about what I ate.
SO I LOST 5-6 LBS. (Yay.) Rumination goal: good; no academic deep dives: not good.

So, goals for the week:
(1) Organize office about 1 hr/day
(2) Study (for classes) 4+ hrs/day and don't do a deep dive on things I don't feel I really understand.
(3) Do 700-1000 cals/day on treadmill/bike (or what my foot will allow), not worrying about speed. (The Achilles was still twinging last week. I still have to be careful not to elevate my blood pressure, as just bending over still causes discomfort.)
(4) Keep ruminating to a minimum.
(5) Get taxes started (and a few other financial matters taken care of.)
(6) Make sure kids keep progressing, get daily work done, and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. (Not 3-4am like the last 2 nights.)
Being careful when eating would normally be on my list, but I doubt I'll have much issue with that this week.

My mini-goal here was to log on to Slowtwitch, look at the forums, do this post, and get off within 45 minutes. I missed by only 15 minutes, so the week is starting well.

Tri or tri not; this is no du. (--- with apologies to Yoda.) Slow triathlete who survived Huntsville, Lelystadt, Colmar, Fontanil, and
Szekesfehervar/Lake Velence. Arbor hydration specialist in a kid's park in Monterrey 4 times in the 1990s (and in the pits in 1994).

It’s never too late to really get into soups/chowders. Perhaps another goal to add to the list.

your phrasing made me laugh. I'm sorry the tooth thing made you so sick (or perhaps the sinus thing was unrelated).

journaling done

I'm tired after a super long intense workday yesterday so self care for a bit until the next work thing. +self care after that.
I feel vulnerable to unhealthy coping skills today but will not use them! I commit to doing so. I like my streak!

Fri - healthy skills :)

Part of thurs.’ Issue was I was recovering from an extra long extra intense workday Wed. I had the same super long intense workday yesterday. Fortunately, today is Saturday, so I don’t have to work if I don’t want to (unlike thurs).

The game and goal today is self care and rest.

Good for you for practicing your healthy skills. I need to do some of that in a physical way. I woke up today with my low back very angry at what I did and didn't do yesterday.
