Sunny Gilbert was, at a time, a pro triathlete. She has been 2nd at CX nats (in the elite field) twice.

In terms of US athletes, it's almost certainly Steve Larsen.

Ok so not strictly tri but how about former pro cyclocross rider Albert Zweifel finishing 3rd in the Zofingen Duathlon in 1992 when it was actually one of the top three or four multi sport races in the world at the time?

That was the first thing that sprung to mind for me too. And Albert was not just a former pro cyclocross rider, he was a former cyclocross world champion! And he did beat Mark Allen at Zofingen 1992!

Results are not important

I feel that there are several top level CX riders in the US women field who came from triathlon. Becca Fahringer and Cassie Maximenko are the immediate names that come to mind.

Maghalie Rochette is also on that list.

and @Fredly is right Larsen would be up there.

ahh you know i thought of larsen but i was ignorant of his cross results. i think that's the top of the list so far.

zweifel is a good one, and i've often wondered how pro cx folks would fare just dropping into a du, as some put some very impressive runs on strava (and of course pidcock's 13 min 5k /pink)

looks like on the women's side shirin van anrooij has the best results across both.

The correct answer is Raylyn Nuss, 21st at the 2015 ITU Chicago, current pan am CX champion and races the world cup circuit. Also currently 13th in the lifetime grand prix.

Hannah Otto (Finchamp) was an outstanding triathlete - won Xterra worlds (Amateur) a couple of times. Collegiate CX champion with several podiums at U23 Natz and Pan Am. Decided that MTB was her strength and turned pro - won Leadville 100 last year.
