Slightly OT - Getting honey out of the jar
Quote | Reply
I am making post ride smoothies and having trouble getting the honey out of the plastic bottle. The bottle says do not microwave. It's really thick.

Boil some water and stick the bottle in the water.

Thanks, that was really quick. Will I have to do that every time I need to get more out? The bottle is about half full and I only need about a tablespoon or two each day. I wonder if there is anything I could do to mitigate this in the future besides using a different sweetener.

I always buy the bear with the flat head flip-top for that specific reason.

Yeah, you have to ditch the cute plastic bear unless you want to give it a bath every time you want it to put out.

I buy my honey either in bulk five pound cans or in glass jars (I can cut the top of the can off and scoop out the crystalized honey with an ice cream scoop if needed). Glass can be microwaved no problem; just watch it closely and stir to mix the hot spots so you don't have a honey lava eruption.

Enjoy. (My mum raised bees for years so I have honey running in my veins).

I wouldn't know... eating sugary honey is enough of a high for me. i'm sure you can probably make a bong out of almost anything, though, if you are resourceful enough.

Take the bear, but it in a pot of hot water, and let it sit for several hours on the stove. (Don't microwave it.) The honey will stay thin and squeezable.
