Is there a shelf life to a Co2 cart.?
During a training ride it's no problem to take an extra or two, but during a race do most of you go for a new cartridge or use an old one you have around?

So is there an effective shelf life to these? If so; I suppose I should mark them with the date of purchase. I can't see why there would be a shelf life, they are not suppose to leak. Maybe during enough heat/cool cycles in a car, etc, they might loose some pressure?

Should be ok, those cartridges are sealed really well. There's a lot of pressure sealed up in one of those! However, if you have one loaded into your inflator, there may be the potential for leakage. I'd suggest taking sealed ones to the race, they're cheap enough!

I hadn't used one for about 8 or 9 months, and it was dead when I tested it.

I didn't think so.. until I used two that were about 8 yrs. old and got nothing...

I still find it hard to believe they may have a shelf life limitation... but, I've only had two failures and both were about 8 yrs. old...

It really doesn't pay to buy cheap ones!
