Actually, he's from New Zealand. 22-years old, 23 in April. 5'10" or so, about 140 pounds. Prep star in Lower Hutt, a suburb of Wellington. 4th in 1500 at 2002 World Junior Championships. Ran 4:01 for mile and 1:48 for 800 in high school. He wasn't recruited by U of Michigan - rather, he called the U of M coach (Ron Warhurst) and asked if they might be interested in him. Twice NCAA XC All-American at Michigan, won NCAA Indoor Mile. Made NZL Olympic team in 1500, missed making finals in Athens by about 6 inches in semi's. PR's to date: 1:45.5 for 800, 3:32.68 for 1500 (IAAF meet in Rome in July, 2004), 3:53.5 for mile, 7:44.9 for 3000 (indoors), 13:27 for 5000.

As for personality, I found him to be bright, articulate - and though confident, confident in a quiet sort of way. I'm not sure how or from what your impression was formed, but it sure doesn't fit the Nick Willis we know around here.

my bad...i'm confusing willis with he ex michigan teammate nate brannen. i never could keep those two straight.

I knew you were thinking of brannen. he got the silver and michigan runner kevin sullivan from canada came in 4th I believe. So three out of the top four ran for michigan at one point...eat your heart out buckeyes.

Actually Nick is an amazing guy. A very strong christian. He was looking into housing for me this "summer" in wellington just before he left for the commonwealth games.

i think he has gone faster in the mile now. he recently broke john walker's nz record.

Actually, I believe the results I saw indicated Sully was seventh. Still 3 in the top ten.
