just started triathlons this year (jan), have worked my way up to HIM, the race is 18 days away. This week (last two days) I have just felt like blah, not wanting to get out there and train. Many of my friends are saying I should take the rest of the week off due to burn out, but I feel it will only hurt my performance. what says the forum?

Rest. Athletes are way too high strung and rest is often the best thing in a situation like this even if you don't think so or don't want to rest.

Look at the contradiction in your post. You have no motivation to train and yet you think that rest will hurt your performance.
The most likely cause of a poor performance is if you don't rest.
