I have an April 2011, one of the last ones made. And if that's the "improved" brake, I shudder to think what the original was like.

The bike shown here is a 2011 model, so I presume it has the latest brake.

Thank you all for your suggestions. It's become pretty clear to me that, even with a different brake, I will get nowhere near the 121 q factor on my P3C. If I take off the brake altogether, there's still the issue of chainstay clearance (they're wider on the P4 than on the P3C.

By my reckoning if I can only get the q-factor down to 135-140 on the P4, I may as well stick with the P3C, or a P5.

Two P4 framesets (51cm and 54cm) now on ebay for those who are interested. I used the 51cm for mockup and test purposes. The 54cm is still brand new.

My latest book: "Out of the Melting Pot, Into the Fire" is on sale on Amazon and at other online and local booksellers
