Playing it safe in the Swim
No matter how well my training has gone.
No matter how good I feel before an event.

I simply never execute the swim to a level that I'm happy with. I always end up playing it safe and going round at a pace I can sustain and get to T1 in a non fatigued state.

I know the old adage "Cant win in the Swim" (and I'm MOP give or take) But whenever I look at my splits, there's always a tinge of "I could knock MINUTES off that!" (Regardless of distance) Especially if I look at my pool times. In the pool I can smash my sets as hard as I can, way beyond my "hoped for" race pace repeatedly. I can be crouching in the shallow end breathing like a steam train. So it's not that my training is lacking the requiste levels of intensity.

I daresay it's some nonsensical "if you go hard, you will tire and you'll drown" life preservation thing going on when the suit goes on and there's no wall every X metres

Suggestions on overcoming?

Post your times in the pool and open water?
