Training With Cast?
I fractured my scaphoid in multiple places in a cycling crash a few weeks back. I have 4 more weeks in a fiberglass/cotton cast. So far I have been able to run and bike for training. Does anybody have tips on keeping cast clean and dry when training in summer heat? I tried a fiberglass waterproof cast but had a skin reaction to it.

There are different types of waterproof cast padding- see if your ortho office is willing to order a different type. Or you can order it yourself and have the cast techs put you in a new cast with it.

If not, ask them if they have the DonJoy Exos cast system- if they do they will have little 'ovens' in their cast rooms which mold these things. I don't have personal experience with these but have seen some athletes with scaphoid and other wrist/arm fractures using these:

Depending on what part of the world you are in, there are also some pretty sweet 3D-printed casts which can incorporate ultrasound transducers to speed up healing. ( I think maybe EU only though?)

If you are in the US- do yourself a favor and order an Exogen off ebay or Craigslist- look for the slightly older ones with the orange label ( not purple) because you can replace the batteries in those units. They can help accelerate healing to your scaphoid, which as you know by now can be a very problematic bone to heal.

Good luck!
