Why would anyone use anything other than a Connex quick link?

Wait, you can't use the 10-speed's quick link on the 11 speed chain?

I just re-used the link on the new chain when I swapped all my components from 10 to 11 speed. It seems to be working fine so far.

What if I want my quick link to match my Shimano chain? :)

Finally. I'll still continue to use kmc chains though.

All chains are dead to me except Kennison's Connex ultra optimized chain thing (and the heart link that comes with)

Not even a dura ace with an ultrasonic cleaner and usual black wax protocol? Works out about 1/3 the price per chain and I'm yet to see any data that shows the connex is quicker?

But not reusable?
Maybe I am missing something, but what is the point ?

there is so much confusion around quick links... most manufacturers say their link is not reusable and for use only with their own chain (including connex on that point). however many people seem to break both rules happily. would be nice to have official policies that match reality and support what people want to be able to do - that would decide my preference

I bought a dozen for $88 from an eBay seller in Japan.

I think KMC are fair in this regard, they clearly state which of their links are rated as reusable and which ones aren't:

http://www.kmcchain.eu/connector-road_cross

To cut a long story short, if the code on your KMC quick link finishes with an "R" (e.g. the 10-speed CL559R) then they are fine to reuse and if it's not (e.g. the 11-speed CL555) then they're not. Obviously people can and have reused "non-re-usable" links, but KMC probably have a specific reason for stating that they're not rated for reuse; furthermore I think it's telling that none of the big manufacturers make an 11-speed quick that is rated for reuse.

As for why use a non-reusable quick link at all, I take your point, but IMO they're still quicker and easier to install than a chain-pin, especially on 11-speed where the tolerances are very tight.
