Great article. Thank you, Herbert!

As you can see in the first picture, Don is one of the only people to do the whole race, after the bike, that's 4 runs and 3 swims in a long legged wetsuit.

Go Don! Great race! It should keep running forever!

The funniest part is how we got connected. Don tweeted in error to me with his contact info. He tried to reach out to Strava and had no idea who I was or what I did. But I did not know that and only after about 10 minutes on the phone the mystery was solved. :-)

Yea, easy for you to say. You won this thing. Some of us get to question "the best" aspect after the Steel Bridge...

Ha. Fair enough. But you forget that I have been a multiple participant in the "hell ... walking is the only option left" trek from the infamous Trapps steel bridge to Lake Mohonk. And so have been a few other SOS winners. But even when having to switch to walking ... be it because of sub-optimal race execution or because of not being quite in SOS-racing shape ... I would maintain that it's the best race on the planet. Once you cross the finish line at the Skytop, you feel accomplished ... no matter what happened (or didn't happen) in the previous few hours.

I've had the honor of doing that race two or three times. And got to talk to Don at length about it. It is truly the most amazing event I have ever seen. There is nothing quite like running full speed down a hill right into the water at full speed with your running shoes on, lowering your goggles and putting on your swim cap. Keep running into the lake until you start floating, pull off your shoes and jam them in the back of your jammers, and swim, swim, swim!

Well, if it makes ya feel better - there is no steel bridge.

Right now. It's gone.
But - the new one will be back in plenty of time for the race.

I sat with the RD in the NPHS auditorium last night, as both of our daughters are incoming Freshmen this Fall.
It's fun being a local now.
I'm signed up for SOS also, since all the cool kids are doing it.
And because the start line is 2.5m from my front door.

Don is a stud.
I want to be just like him when I grow up.
