Rode up to mile 8 yesterday as part of the Old Man Winter Rally, it was in great shape, didn't seem too sandy (only went up, might be a bit careful coming down).

I've heard it's fine now. Last time I came down it from peak to peak (November time) and there was a lot of roadwork stuff still going on. But someone I know told me they went all the way up and it's done now.
